Matthew Lenz Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 With a bevy of relief pitchers on the 40-man roster, the Toronto Blue Jays have effectively non-tendered one who was in his arbitration years. According to the Blue Jays' official transaction log, pitcher Nick Sandlin has been outrighted by the team. MLB Trade Rumors projected the righty to earn $2 million via arbitration. The Jays now have 37 players on their 40-man roster. Sandlin, acquired via trade about a year ago, made 19 appearances, throwing 16 1/3 innings in 2025. Injuries limited his availability and likely his productivity. So, do you think he'll choose free agency or accept his assignment to the minor leagues? Let us know what you think in the comments! Theres a non-zero chance he decides to stay, but I dont expect him to.

They weren't wiling to tender him a contract and even pay him ~ 2.5M in arbitration. I guess he could re-sign the Jays for even less but that seems unlikely too. He probably leaves and gets a amall 1 year major league contract from someone else with an amount similar or a little less than his expected ARB salary. You see that pretty often.

Well it was his injuries that kept him from performing and making it not overly cost-effective to want to pay him his arbitration projection for a guaranteed spot on the roster when they need space for protecting rule-5 guys. It's unfortunate, Sandlin is one of those arms that could fully break out at any time. Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him as a back-end option somewhere in the near future. BatFlip 1
