You just gotta have a quick hook. Hoffman is either ON or OFF, and you can easily see it within the first couple batters. Not sure you can reliably have him as the 9th inning guy anymore at this point

Fair. Schneider does let pitchers with seniority go too long for my taste sometimes.

I’m shocked they pitched to Wallner in that situation. Would have put him on but oh well.

I said the same last night with Scherzer in the 6th but yall didn’t agree. Walner is crushing it right now.

Why are we burning another bullpen arm here. Plain and simple Hoffman blew it, there is 2 outs let him finish the inning, game is over at this point.

And you blasted me for saying the same thing months ago about how easy it was seeing if hes on or off.  Someone should be warming up every time he gets into a game.

He did the exact same thing last week almost gifting the Dodgers a free game. Wasn’t so lucky this time.

Not learning from his mistakes which is alarming

Maybe it has something to do with Hoffman's warm up routine?  Perhaps he needs a lot more pitches to get ready?  Maybe he has it in the pen and just sucks on the diamond?

The guy is an enigma.

The bullpen in the next 30 games may destroy this season. The bullpen has been bad all August and probably September too

You’re right, there isn’t a lot of distance between us and bos and yanks, one bad stretch with the bullpen and we lose our spot

To be fair when you were saying it it was still early in the season. Its been going on long enough now that he can’t be relied on

Problem with Hoffman is he has such poor command. So if his fastball isn't 96-98 and is more 94-95 he gets absolutely crushed. He makes a ton of mistakes right down the middle but if he has his good stuff he more than often gets by with it. It is true that he either is amazing or down right awful not much in betweeen.

That said I can't really fault JS here, hes your closer he's supposed to lock down the game. Doesn't help everyone else besides Nance in the pen is sucking too.

There's no easy fix when they're collectively scuffling, I don't think I've ever seen it to this degree before. They need to execute soon, err hopefully.

It is a trait of his. Generally i think he's a good manager though. They simply should have got more at the deadline. They got one reliever who can strike people out. That should have been three. They were cheap.

I said Atkins should be fired for his pitiful deadline attempt at shoring up the bullpen. I still feel that way.

If the playoffs were to start today we’d have no shot. Bullpen needs to pull it s*** together quickly

this loss is a confidence killer for sure

The Jays have one of the hardest remaining schedules among the playoff teams. If they keep blowing these winnable games, they might lose the division title.

yakees and Rsox schedules in September are relatively soft

Not sure cheap is the right word but they definitely could have added more. Varland scuffling at the same time hurts. Little has been a walk machine for a while now, Dominguez can lose it just as easiliy as Hoffman.

Yariel seems to be basically be replacement.
