didn't they activate Swanson too?  Man what a difference a few games can make.  People will say they have faced crap pitching, but every player in the league faces crap pitching throughout the season and that's where they pad their numbers.  Maybe we just hadn't faced enough crap pitching this year so far!

Barger, Bo, Vlad, Springer, Kirk.  These guys all have pretty good numbers.  The underlying numbers also suggest their numbers should actually be better.  Can we just get Santander healthy and have him hitting close to the back of the baseball card.  This team could actually be really good.  Let's go on a run.  I'm ready for playoff baseball this year.  I actually feel like we could get there and I wasn't so sure earlier in the season.

I still think this team needs that 1 massive addition at the trade deadline to bat in the top 3.  I agree that everything else can fall into place perfectly for a magical 2nd half run.

Top of the order hitters rarely seem to be moved at the deadline in recent years.

Yeah agree another big power bat is needed. Whether that's a bat in the top 3 or someone you can bat 5th or 6th.

Based on the current standings, some bats that could be available:

- Luis Robert Jr.

- Brent Rooker (if A's continue to struggle and want to move him)

- Taylor Ward

- Andrew McCutchen

Rooker would be a sweet pickup for the middle-of-the-order if he became available.

Jays are 5th in position player WAR but 21st in pitching WAR.

Best defensive team in baseball and it's not close.

Addison Barger has a .386 xwOBA. Imagine if he is just like this forever? Just a huge muscle bound lefty who destroys the ball every day and throws missiles

Ya its a big ask but one i think will be required for us to make the playoffs and have a real chance to do damage there imo.  Hope theyre making calls already to set the seed and then can hopefully strike closer to the deadline.

How do we rank when we split the defensive and offensive WAR for positions players?

They need a front line starter much more urgently than they need a bat. Preferably both if we're being greedy, but they don't have enough starters that can stop good offenses from scoring in my opinion.

While it would be great to have that true #1, our bullpen and defense looks elite enough to offset any starting pitching deficiencies at the moment.

There is nothing that will offset our offense when we start comparing ourselves to the potential playoff teams.

Manoah is going to shove in August/September.  Maybe we can get some innings from him as a bullpen starter.

If the A's lose today, it will be something like one win in their last 18 games.  Congrats Vegas on your new team.  Yikes.

I still think the pitching is more important.  another bat won't make a difference if games get away from us early.

Based on our recent playoff appearances and just overall style of play, how many games have gotten away because of our pitching and how many of those games did we lose because we were inept offensively?

I'll still feel offense is a bigger need vs another starting pitcher when we still have Scherzer/Manoah to factor into this season.
