5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 The through points over the last four seasons are: -Vlad and Bo (the core) -Atkins -Guillermo So it's either... hitting coach bad, game prep analytics system bad, players are low IQ, or some combo I dunno, but it's crazy. Sometimes when I have the day off, I like to put a little money on the Jays when the situation calls for it. I'll scope out a spot where they're facing a sub 5.00 ERA gas can lefty and think it's easy money and 8/10 they get completely dominated. It's truly bizarre.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Thank god Aktins addressed the offense issue by signing offensive specialist IKF and 40 year-old Turner Can't believe the Jays didn't fix the offense. Instead of: IKF - $7.5 million / 1.2 fWAR Turner - $13 million / -0.1 fWAR KK - $10.5 million / 0.2 fWAR Vogelbach - $2.0 million / -0.2 fWAR Total - $33 million / 1.1 fWAR They should have signed: Teo - $23.5 million / 1.4 fWAR JDM - $12 million / 0.5 fWAR Total - $35.5 million / 1.9 fWAR Season saved! An extra 0.8 fWAR! Wait, what?? It's almost like this team was screwed no matter what (unless they miraculously landed Ohtani or Soto) because the rest of the options weren't good enough to actually make up for the core hitters on this team turning to garbage the last two seasons.

Yeah they were f***ed and the course was set To fix this team in 2024 they would've had to make many different decisions before the offseason. Maybe years before. Still atkins' fault

We get it Core hitters Not good enough
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 JDM has played half the season and has .5 war. He would be our third best hitter Teoscar would be our second most valuable position player, third best output offensively To turn your nose up at the idea that a couple of good hitters replacing slap hitting utility men means you think the game is played on Fangraphs and not grass
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 We get it Core hitters Not good enough People don't get it though, because every time we lose a game they complain that they didn't fix the offense this past off season. Every time. The junk that was out there wasn't going to fix it. It was too late.

Just think of tonight Great starting pitching one run through 8 Jays get bullied by Hogan Harris Wouldn’t it have been nice to have two guys like Vlad or Danny Jansen having at bats instead of KK and JT?
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Okay but pre season why was JT bad and JDM so good? That's 100% hindsight All of JP, JT, JDM, even maybe Teoscar were same bucket
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Walked off by the greenbeans and dipshit-atkins still has a job.. the beat goes on

The game isn't played on Fangraphs or computers. JDM and Teo both would have made a difference in this lineup, even with guys struggling. Jays needed power bats, even if they had sacrifice some defense in the process. You still could have signed IKF to play 3B and have JDM at DH with Teo in LF. So now you're admitting this team wasn't good enough even before the offseason? Who does that blame fall on then? It all points to Atkins. You just admitted yourself.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Okay but pre season why was JT bad and JDM so good? That's 100% hindsight All of JP, JT, JDM, even maybe Teoscar were same bucket JDM had more power and was 3-years-younger than Turner. Not too difficult to see who was a better fit at DH. Teo has had success here in Toronto before and has shown to have 3-4 WAR upside if things click for him offensively. Regardless you knew you were getting a corner OF who at least could hit 25-30 HR's and drive in runs. Something this team needed dating back to the start of 2023.

Other than ohtani or Soto none of the other crap available was going to fix this mess unless #1 happened 3. Atkins is responsible for this baseball teams results, good or bad

Yeah, if the Jays sign JDM and Teo instead of all those other guys this offense would be "fixed" for sure. We'd be right up there with the Orioles for the 1st wild card.

That's 100% hindsight All of JP, JT, JDM, even maybe Teoscar were same bucket No it’s not It’s like you guys are surprised the offense stinks. Huh something something core bats something something JDM and Teo were always better options than 40 year old Justin Turner Could’ve been Rhys Hoskins, could’ve been a trade
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Yeah, if the Jays sign JDM and Teo instead of all those other guys this offense would be "fixed" for sure. We'd be right up there with the Orioles for the 1st wild card. Davis Schneider - 120 Danny Jansen - 130 Vlad - 140 Teoscar Hernandez - 130 JDM - 130 Ya it would’ve been a terrible idea to have a lineup looking like this in June

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 He sleeps during the day usually. This feels like a “racist” Spanky trope lol. Though I know you didn’t mean it to be.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Lmao... some of you people are f***ed.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 I don't think any of us expected Justin Turner to be this bad. He got off to such a good start. But I guess age wins eventually.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 I don’t really get the “just need to get in philosophy” with this years team. Like there’s no real surprise a guy like last night can neutralize the offense. Possibly battling with a handful of other bad teams for that W3 would likely just mean we limp along again next year
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 lol... fool. These dudes are acting like it's their opinions that are getting them banned. It's not that hard to avoid these kinds of bans, if mods repeatedly warn everyone to stop using words that some members find to be offensive and you refuse it leads to a temporary ban. If you get banned for using offensive words, and then upon your return call out the mods while acting all indignant and pretending like it's some sort of attack on personal freedoms then it's just going to lead to another ban.

Possibly battling with a handful of other bad teams for that W3 would likely just mean we limp along again next year I don't recall seeing a team so completely incapable of hitting a mediocre fastball. Even dudes with below average stuff can just pound fastballs to this club and they are completely incapable of doing anything against them.

It’s a GM’s f***ing job to be right lol Of course it’s not a job where you can’t have misses, but moves start becoming magnified as the seat gets hot. And his should be hot
