Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 The Jays will be saving over $2M in salary for the reminder of the season on Biggio's contract, I know they were extremely close on the 1st Threshold of the luxury tax, is it possible this may bring them under the luxury tax now? I don't see how this is going to make a difference in terms of the overall competitive balance tax. The threshold for 2024 as per the collective bargaining agreement is $237 million for fiscal 2024. It looks like the Jays will end up at around 224 million for this season barring, any considerable addition at the trade deadline. So it looks like they're in the clear in terms of the competitive balance tax for this year.

It's also been reported that the Jays will be covering part of Biggio's salary as well as part of the trade so that reduces the overall savings a bit.
Auldphartt Verified Member Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 A dark day in baseball. Whatever team Biggio goes to will be my new favorite team. The Dodgers just became my new favorite NL team. Otani, Freeman, Teoscar, and now Biggio... what's not to like. I won't hold Betts against them. They also have some pretty good pitching. Go Dodgers go.
