Well from the looks of it the Dodgers countered with the $700M and that was a bridge too far for Rogers. Not sure how I feel from a fans point of view. The Sho would have been incredible for this team but being pragmatic, it would not have made sense. Doesn't take the sting away though.

Does that have any luxury tax ramifications though? To me the luxury tax hit is the biggest detractor for placing so many eggs into one basket such as this as eventually this could prevent the Dodgers from being able to add enough talent to their minor league pipeline given the increasingly onerous penalties.

I see no reason for Hicks to be brought back as the returning pen is already a strength, but I could certainly see the team being in the bidding for Chapman and Bellinger, which unfortunately both have a lot of potential to be terrible contracts in the not too distant future.

That's not exactly a fair characterization that the team would go for bidding seriously on the best free agent in the history of the sport and instead pivot to a s***** utility player but I get where you're coming from.
