Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Author Posted September 23, 2023 Schneider has no faith in Mayza He remembers Mayza giving homer to Judge last year What?
travisinfla Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 not sure why mayza wasnt used there, dont think the rays bench had anyone worthwhile to pitch hit over Lowe.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Yet another heartbreaking loss at the Trop. How does Schneider leave Romano in against the Lefty, when Mayza was warm and Romano clearly dealing with a finger issue. This was an absolute no brainer.
Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 When Romano sucks he sucks bad. 4 hits in 2/3 inning
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Romano cracks me up out there, such a character. I think he's become one of my new favourite pitchers in baseball from a likability perspective. Such a character!
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 John Schneider is not smart lol
Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Trying to defend manager Schneider
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Romano is not an elite closer anymore. He gives up too many walks/hits.
Steeljays Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I don't trust Romano anymore. This guy never had a clean inning for a while and luckily closed the game most of the time. I was never a Romano fan and definitely not in back to back games. I think he is overrated. He has value I wouldn't mind hicks and green in next years back end( with Swanson)
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 The right move was probably to bring in Mayza to face Lowe or walk Lowe to have Romano face Margot. Regardless if Schneider brought in Mayza and he blew it, I bet some of the trolls would be complaining "why didn't Schneider leave Romano in!" haha.

Every time Romano comes to the mound, I feel anxious about the outcome.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Romano is not elite, he never was, he's a 3 to 3.5 ERA caliber pitcher who will from time to time give up some runs. So you have to sort of just deal with these losses and move on. It's not his fault. Elite closers are hard to get.

jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 JS just said Romano was dealing with a cracked fingernail that happened last night. It was a genius decision to force Romano to close the game today lol.

The move was to walk Lowe and deal with Margot. simple common sense. Looking the other way, shows us why add on runs are so important and we are not good with that. I would have PH for DS. At this point he is no longer a mlb player.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I prefer Swanson more than Romano as a closer. Every time Romano comes to the mound, I feel anxious about the outcome. Romano, Swanson, Garcia, they are all pretty much the same.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 That's nice for his ERA. I still maintain what I said. Lol you just said he's a 3-3.5 ERA caliber pitcher. His ERA hasn't even been close to that the past three seasons. I agree he's not one of the top elite closers in the game, but he's still very good and consistent. He gets the job done majority of the time. He's going to blow the odd save here or there, but I have no problem with him as the Jays closer.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Romano is not the issue. Using him in a 1 run game in the 9th is justified regardless of what happens. However, that doesn’t apply if he’s injured/compromised, and the coaching staff knew about it 24 hours earlier, and still decided to use him. That borders on inexcusable.
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I don't think Romano deserves his ERA this season. He put runners on base too many times.

Without an elite pitcher in the bullpen, yeah you have to sort of deal with having him as your closer. Most teams don't have an elite closer so what can you do? I wish we had one of the elite closers in baseball I'll tell you that much. It makes a difference in the postseason, as we've already seen with Romano. It's one of the reasons I don't think this team can win a world series because we don't have enough elite arms. Gausman is the only one.

The staff still had a chance to make an in- game adjustment. Walking Lowe was the move there. No question. The only runner that mattered on base was at 3rd. You take your chances with Margot.

Steeljays Verified Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Yes that or bring in Mayza to face Lowe. JS has never been a good in game decision maker, sadly. Agree. I think that's where the disappointment is with the coaching staff and there moves and not the Romano hate as another poster may have added.... what the F was the conversation with Pete walker and Romano? That made no sense putting more pressure on a struggling pitcher. Talk your chance with the weaker hitter
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 The Romano hate is glorious... show yourselves fools!!! It's not hate to say he's not elite because he isn't, but it's not his fault. The results would be no different if we had Garcia in the closers role or Swanson. Just because the manager chose him to be in that role it doesn't mean he's suddenly going to become Mariano Rivera.

Dude, I know what Romano is, and he's a stud. Hear me, a f***ing stud. Give your collective head a shake, no one think's he's elite or Rivera, ya dingleberry.
