Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Wow Kiermaier. And yall want Varsho playing CF over him next season. Are you kidding me? I'm rolling with KK until his body says he can't do it anymore. Only way that doesn't happen is if Shatkins want to make the Varsho trade look better by having him at CF.
Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Not counting on the A's to hold but 30 minutes ago it looked like .5 games ahead of Texas going into tomorrow. If we can be 2.5...
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Wow Kiermaier. And yall want Varsho playing CF over him next season. Are you kidding me? If the Jays don’t make the Varsho trade then a KK extension would be a no brainer, but they can’t afford to go into next season with both KK and Varsho in the OF again. Have to view KK as a pure one year rental.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Kk is awesome. Babe on base twice again the rest of the team should study his ABs.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I swear it feels like Vlad has been hitting a lot of balls off the end of his bat. Either move up an inch in the box or invest in a slighter longer bat lol
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Our over reliance on Garcia is going to be our downfall
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 If the Jays don’t make the Varsho trade then a KK extension would be a no brainer, but they can’t afford to go into next season with both KK and Varsho in the OF again. Have to view KK as a pure one year rental. I would be fine if they moved on from Varsho but I also think he can be the 4th OF. LF needs to be addressed offensively for sure. But Kiermaier seems to love it here. I think everyone loves having him here. He's probably not going to play 140+ games anymore at his age so having a capable 4th OF just works. It really depends how things work out but retaining Kiermaier should absolutely be something they do. I just have no idea what Varsho's value would even be at this point even with his control. He has had an absolute train wreck offensive season.
metafour Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 No just no. You don't have to justify the s***** Varsho trade by making another dumb move by letting the superior player go because of it "The superior player": Kiermier is 34 next year and these are his wRC+ the past SIX seasons: 79 79 94 101 90 110 (this season) It's called a fluke on both ends. Varsho won't be as bad as he has been this season and Kiermier at 34 years old isn't likely to repeat this 110 wRC+ hitting. He is also at the age where CF defense tends to start falling off a cliff rapidly.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 A little bit late as I'm just catching up with this game and saw the Ankiel...erm....Ragans disaster. What the actual f***? Dude straight malfunctioned. In 35 years of baseball viewing, that was some of the weirdest s*** I've ever seen. Go Jays!
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 Hang on to your butts here....
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Somebody tell Schneider to keep the f***ing tag down. No reason to hold it for the ump. That s***'s going to cost us.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 "The superior player": Kiermier is 34 next year and these are his wRC+ the past SIX seasons: 79 79 94 101 90 110 (this season) It's called a fluke on both ends. So you're justification is that Varsho will magically become a useful offensive player while KK will fall off immediately. No one's saying we need to give KK a long term deal. A 2 year deal at most is what should be expected here. KK, even if he falls off, would make a great 4th OFer/pinch runner.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I swear it feels like Vlad has been hitting a lot of balls off the end of his bat. Either move up an inch in the box or invest in a slighter longer bat lol He's been trying to get the ball in the air, he does an upper cut motion with his arms from time to time - either in the dugout or sometimes during an at bat you can see him doing the motion. It's not quite working. The problem is clear - Jays need to get him some help.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Why not Mayza instead of Cabrera here?

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Nothing Kiermaier doing is a fluke. Stop lol. Not to mention the amount of great hustle plays KK makes offensively that no one else on the team can replicate. His intangible plays + him seeming like a great leader are more reasons to keep him around.
metafour Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 So you're justification is that Varsho will magically become a useful offensive player while KK will fall off immediately. Varsho was a better hitter last season and the year prior to that they were basically even. So your justification is that you think that Kiermier has magically become a MUCH better hitter in his mid 30's than he was for 5 straight seasons prior to that? You are stuck on recency bias. Look at Kiermier's hitting history over a long term sample. A few months ago guys like you were arguing that we need to bring Merriweather back. There is a very significant chance that Kiermier is back to ~80 wRC+ hitting next year with declined speed and defense.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I really worry about KK breaking down even further, if there are no takers bring him back on a 2/12M or something like that
metafour Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Nothing Kiermaier doing is a fluke. Stop lol. So then what was preventing a younger version of him to hit at 110+ wRC+?? Yes man, at mid 30's he's just becoming a better hitter. Happens ALL the time!
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 DS has a weakness on the outside corner.

The real answer is probably keeping both around and u just roll with the better player at CF. Varsho won't have much value after a season like this anyways while KK shouldn't require anything more than a 2 year commitment. Both are ideal 4th OFers in the worst cast too.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I really worry about KK breaking down even further, if there are no takers bring him back on a 2/12M or something like that We paid him 10M coming off a down year where he had a major injury. Good luck paying him that little after a season like this lol.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 Good call John Schneider on the hit n run.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Damn... Yankees just got no hit after 9 innings but luckily it's going to the 10th lol. They can potentially win the game while being no hit loll.
