BlueJays Verified Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Whit leading off is paying off already
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Last week they were all arguing you have to stay with Gausman even if he’s struggling. he’s the ace. What’s different this week? No it wasn't, it was pulling Kooch after 78 pitches while dealing and we had a double header the next day, he gassed the pen, man. There's no other way to put it.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I don't know what that argument was about. The recent example of stupidity that comes to mind is when he pulled Kikuchi early against Seattle when he was at 78 pitches. That decision alone probably cost us 2 wins. Maybe. Who knows? If relievers could get outs it wouldn’t be a problem. And f*** yes Merrifield!
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Wow. Merrifield making the FO seriously think about picking up his option.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Spanky and Omar - how do you manage to stay cool with all the doomers on this board? It’s so depressing at times And that's when we are winning. Way to go Whit, we have a leadoff man.

There's no other way to put it. Couldnt agree more. Kooch was f***ing shoving that start and his stuff was electric. Its was not a "normal" early Kooch pull lol which I always support.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 (edited) Wow. Merrifield making the FO seriously think about picking up his option. It's a no brainer at this point. Actually a 2 year deal makes more sense. Edited July 29, 2023 by Spanky99
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Do you sign Whit 3/45 this off-season? 2/32? Tough call since we have a decent amount of young talent in the middle of the infield coming up soon. (hopefully)
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Wow. Merrifield making the FO seriously think about picking up his option. More like a decline and re-sign to multi year thing. That option would be dumb to pick up as is
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Jays haven’t played a double header recently…when was this? Sorry, that day was a PPD double header.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I’m not sure we’re giving enough credit to Merrifield on that HR…100 mph up and in…put out to CF. Jesus

He is a 2 ish WAR player who has been smoking hot. Recency bias.

Recency bias. This year .779 OPS, career .759 OPS. He is running pretty even. Doesn't seem like a guy that will fall off a cliff over the next few years.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Ignore List. I asked Spanky for his IL list but he wanted a $20 e-transfer first. I demurred.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Mayza having trouble getting his sinker down in the zone recently. Except those last two pitches to Thaiss. Painted!

Doesn't seem like a guy that will fall off a cliff over the next few years. Speed is a big part of his game. Age is tough on that. His stats are puffed up because he has been raking at an unsustainable level. I don't expect this to continue. Not against a deal for him. Valuable piece and good player. Not anywhere close to 3/45 though. MAYZA is good!!
