They declined his 12M option. Think at that point it was a pride thing to not go back to the same team for less money if you could get that elsewhere.

 

He also chose to stay in the division whereas he could have gotten a slightly bigger deal elsewhere I believe. Maybe to shove it to the Rays? Lol
