Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 I honeslty don't mind the ghost runner rule, especially for regular season games. I'd much rather that, then having to endure a 19 inning game only to lose because you run out of pitchers. Remember losing to the Tigers on Canada Day 2016. We had to send both Ryan Goins and Darwin Barney to pitch cause we had no one left in the pen. It's probably one of the best games that Indians fans have ever experienced. Extra innings provide a huge number of baseball's best moments and that has been stolen from us. It's a real shame.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 People would lose interest after the 11th or 12th inning, and start emptying out of the stadium and switching the channel. Plus would kill the pitchers. Some will disagree, but the ghost runner has to do with improving the product for the average fan, and possibly to reduce the risk of player injury, particularly pitchers. With the rule changes I'd like to see the ghost runner at 1B, and bring steals, hit and run, bunts (!?*) more into play
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 2 days in and only 5 caught stealing in the whole league. I watched and 3 of them were possibly botched hit and runs. Teams are going to have to adjust and start stealing more if that is the new success rate.
