By that logic no front office should ever be held responsible for personnel failures.

 

They decided on what the roster would be, who to bring in, who to move out. Their combination of players didn't get it done.

 

Shatkins may very well be really smart people... But it's been 8 years and what they're doing hasn't been good enough. They've had some wins, and some losses, but overall... Not getting it done.

Listened to that this morning on B & B. Made a lot of sense to me. Barker has gotten solid. He doesnt just rip the team but he does call it as he sees it.

 

I’ve been listening to B&B post game recently and I agree I am a big fan of Barker. He’s come a long ways and his insight into the game is valuable on the radio.

Yeah Barker actually has improved greatly. Love his analysis and calls it as he sees it. Starting to like Blair and Barker a lot now. They've both done a great job!

It was reported multiple times back in 2018 if I recall. Shapiro was ready to go the rebuild route but ownership wasn't willing to go that route given how well attendance and fan support was after 2015 and 2016, so Shapiro had to create the illusion of contention. True fans knew it was a ruse though.

watched half a gate 14 podcast. Why is this guy saying he makes a living covering the jays. He had 3k subs. Unless he works on some other radio stuff I don't know? His game stream is just a feed of him for 3 hours with his fat also failed college ball friend, biting a pen mostly in silence, occasionally talking about football parlays, occasionally screaming obscenities while not actually talking about the game at all.

In the baseball reference version of team quality Jays are lowest amoung non-Minnesota contenders, but Looking at position player WAR and pitching WAR on fangraphs for some teams

 

Jays 22.9 17.0

Mariners 23.9 20.2

Orioles 21.8 16.6

Rangers 30.8 13.2

Astros 25.1 13.1

Rays 30.0 19.3

 

1. Jays are a better position player and pitching team than Orioles

2. Mariners are really good when measured by WAR

3. Jays pitching seems low, but I guess this is because a lot of run prevention is from the defense

No. The chances of everything breaking exactly right the last 2 days was apr., 1/280 using back of napkin calculations. So the last 2 days have been a highly improbable outlier that swung the odds back.

 

(If every team had an even chance of winning having 8 games go the right way is 1/256, but eyeballing the records and team quality KC and Cleveland were underdogs, Toronto slight favorites, and LA slight favorites, so probably the chances of everything breaking right were a bit lower than 1/256)

LMAO if youre watching the Gate14 guys for thorough analysis of the Jays your in the wrong place. Gate14 is for dudes who wanna get emotional reactions and the day to day fandom. They also have a bunch of player connections and do interviews with them all the time. For those who just wanna feel the pulse of the fandom Gate14 guys are pretty entertaining. f***ing nutty. On Wednesday the chances hovered around 70%. After getting swept went down to 35%. And now 2 days later, back up to 70%

We have six games left against the Rays this season (3 at the trop and 3 at home) if we go .500 for those we have a legit shot at finishing the season with a better record than the Astros (i know, it doesn't mean much but...). What a season. Seems mostly like an underachievement but here we are in the thick of it.
