If these estimates are close to reality, then there is no way that a QO to Stripling makes sense. You can do so much better by using that money on some of the free agents. Add $5M for 2023 and then reallocate Ryu's salary moving forward to get Rondon? sign me up. Save $5M in 2023 and then get Senga at $15M for 3 more years. Seems like a better investment as well.

I would gladly take one year of Stripling overpaid over another Kikuchi debacle. Unless its a high end starter you shouldn’t be looking to spend. Spending on back end Starters has not worked out in recent history.

Obviously. No way you invest that much money over multiple years on a big question mark.

Well the Jays seem to love doing it

I think it makes sense.

Vlad was bad, bad, then great.

Bo has been extremely good from day 1.

In his debut season he played at about a 4.2 WAR pace.

Next year, 4.0 WAR pace.

Next year, was worth 5.1 WAR.

This year was worth 4.5 WAR.

A stud from day 1

Bo,is the cornerstone of this team, for sure.

Based on WAR I hope you mean. In terms of actual franchise consideration, I think if all the numbers are the same and they can only sign one, it would be Vlad imo

Bo showed how low his floor can be this past season. I think vlad has a higher floor, which makes me comfortable giving him a long extension.

Im not sure how you can say Bo has a lower floor when he’s had at least 4 WAR every season (or been on pace for) since he came up. Vlad has exactly 1 season over 3 WAR.

I meant more about how Bo got there this psst season. Obviously at the end of the day his numbers looked good, but how he got there required a historic september.

I wouldnt have a problem extending Bo, but if I had to choose one it'd probably still be Vlad.

Bo's numbers were affected very strongly by a remarkably poor month of April. From beginning of May to end of August Bo and Vlad has basically the same WAR total.

I am not all that convinced by either one or the money they will cost. Vlad keeps pounding the ball into the ground. If he is a 1.000 OPS guy then yes you back up the brinks truck for him. If he is a .850 OPS hitter for a chubby first baseman - then he's basically a Teo and maybe you give him a $125m five-year deal.

Bo is kind of a Derek Jeter - one of the worst defensive shortstops in baseball but has a good bat. But he's hardly a complete player. If you're going to dole out $300 million - I want all-star calibre on both sides of the ball.

A guy like Judge for example is a solid enough fielder and a huge bat - that's a guy you pay obscene money to. I'd be more comfortable giving Judge $300m/8 than $300m/10 to Vlad or Bo. Ie; I would take a run at Judge or Correa. Trade Vlad or Bo for other areas of need (starting/pen/CF/SS).

It's kind of important to have very good defence at shortstop - Chapman may be making up for left-side defence but I'd rather have a complete player at SS. And if Bo isn't signing here then you don't have to placate him with regards to position - put him at 2nd or CF.

Blasphemous. Judge has the type of body that won’t age well and he’s already wrong side of 30.

At least Bo and Vlad are young. Even if you think Vlad won’t age well, it probably won’t show until he nears 30

Yeah Judge is over 30. If he was 27 or 28, then maybe, but even still.

I don't think there is a rush to lock up Vladdy or Bo just yet. Want to see Vladdy come close to his 2021 performance and then I feel comfortable giving him $300M over 8 or 10 years.

If he comes close to 2021 again he'll be at $400m.

I don't think so. Maybe more than $300M for sure, but would rather see him prove 2021 was no fluke. Would rather spend $350M on Vladdy after another 6 WAR season in 2023 rather than gamble on giving him $300M after his 2022 season.

I can’t imagine any scenario someone gives a First Baseman that kind of contract. It would be completely unprecedented. I would expect him to get something way more in line with a Matt Olson that goes slightly North of $200m at the most. Unless he goes back to what he was with the bat in 21. He barely even resembled that player in 22.

Hope you're right...but I wonder how much impact Vladdy's big ego, and the fact that he has a HOF father, will have in negotiations. I see him going to the highest bidder...and there will be teams that will pay through the nose for his bat....and "gold glove" defense.

He's already closed the door on the Yankees, I honestly can't see that fan base getting behind him after his comments earlier this off season.

Yankees are stuffed with SS's.

They specifically went out and made a trade for IKF last year…. Signing Correa made a lot of sense. Peraza could’ve moved to 3rd if needed. Now they’re stuck with Donaldson for another year at 20 mil.

Ok then what exactly does this mean.

I was saying they should have signed Correa last offseason. Before the IKF move

Maybe they were anticipating Nolan being an FA this year. Maybe they thought Donaldson would be better. Either way, signing Correa would have been a good move for them last year that could have made a big difference. Peraza could have moved to 3B
