The emphasis on harder throwing is what I like to see. The Blue Jays in the past love polished. And sure we greatly benefited from Alek Manoah. But you also have your Deck McGuires, Jon Harris, and TJ Zoinks as a result as well.

I'm hearing Spencer Jones to the jays next round.

Nah I think Yankees take Jones.

Edit: yup

If he makes it to 60 throw a Parade.

Barriera was my pick from the start; 99 mph lefty in highschool, so much upside.

Is that 99 mph figure reliable? I've seen low 90's, sometimes touching 96 on scouting reports.

I think there are some old scouting reports out there. Look at Tiedemann for example.

It is a relief to see the Jays pick a player in the range that they are expected to go. IÂ’ve become so accustomed to the Ottawa Senators going off the chart with their own made up rankings that drafts have given me a bit of stress in general.

All that being said, Jays drafting has produced some gems so looking forward to tracking Barriera in the future.

He hit it twice I think, its not sustainable but his peak is there. Can be developed reliably because of his delivery.

His delivery looks so clean. Easy velo. Something to dream on for sure.

low 90s T96 is considered very good for an 18yr old prep arm, especially a lefty

Here is what Mayo posted ...

A product of Florida power American Heritage -- the same high school that produced Eric Hosmer and Deven Marrero among other recent big leaguers -- Barriera was the top left-handed pitcher of any kind on our Draft Top 250. He has three above-average pitches. His fastball goes up to 96, and he possesses a low-80s slider and an outstanding changeup, all of which he can command very well, especially for a high schooler. – Mayo

And he looks up to Alek Manoah.

So he’s saying he has a “feel” for a changeup. While Mayo said he has an Outstanding changeup. I feel those are very different reports lol

I think BA gave him 55 on everything - FA, CH, SL, Control
