Jaysareus Verified Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Convert Gabriel Moreno to a closer. He's got a great arm
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 If the Jays manage to win this game now after that line-drive double play, I'll finally be at peace with the no-outs-bases-loaded Michael King double play from earlier this year. That inning still torments me to this day.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Yes, but he was pitching well tonight and he's at only 81 pitches. Need to assess the situation at hand. Also, like I said, he's been pretty much lights out in June (1.16 ERA). Given the Blue Jays bullpen, let him go out in the 6th. Like I said, if he gives up a hard hit ball or walk, bring in Cimber! I know dude, I've seen you post this like 15 times in the last few days, lol.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Just got back….someone wanna tell me why Thornton came in after Cimber in a 2 run game? https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/10383-Guaranteed-W-GDT-THE-Toronto-Bluejays-vs-Whitey-Sox-2pm?p=1614064#post1614064
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Just got back….someone wanna tell me why Thornton came in after Cimber in a 2 run game? Cimber faced the meat of the order, good move.

Also, like I said, he's been pretty much lights out in June (1.16 ERA). Given the Blue Jays bullpen, let him go out in the 6th. It's tough asking this bullpen to give you one or two innings to close out a game, let alone FOUR! Like I said, if he gives up a hard hit ball or walk, bring in Cimber! Stop it with your logical thinking... the spreadsheet said Stripling can't go 3 times through the order. That spreadsheet probably doesn't include that you'd have to rely on a scrub like Thorton. Our management believes all bullpen arms are made equally lol.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Hes been decent when there's no pressure and we're losing. He has not been used in high leverage situations for a reason... he's utter trash. 6.75 ERA with a 1.000 OPS against in high leverage this year Actually better than I thought it would be
keggy Verified Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 What I didn't understand was Phelps pitching yesterday in a blowout. He should've been in there today.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 We can't let our starters go 3 times through the order but we sure can bring in fresh scrubs from the bullpen at any point... This is what happens when you leave analytics to idiots who cant decipher them... pretending to be smarter than you actually are lol. Never have seen starting pitchers babied so much in my life. I understand if Stripling was grinding through those 5 innings and close to 100 pitches, then yes take him out. Though at 81 pitches and cruising, he should have been left in with Cimber ready out of the pen if need be. Josh Towers and Gustavo Chacin pitched into the 7th and 8th innings back in 2005 if they were pitching well and at a low pitch count. I'm sure you can ask Stripling go 6 innings on occasion given how awful the Blue Jays pen has been.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 When does Thornton ever execute in high leverage situations? It's been 4 years and he's been complete trash. Would be great if Pete Walker can sprinkle some of that magic dust people think he has... So who do you go to, I guess Gage, either way this is because are pen suxxxxx?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Cimber faced the meat of the order, good move. Thornton isn’t a good high leverage reliever though, where was Garcia? Cimber, Garcia, Mayza should have been in there in whatever order they thought was right if they wanted to go to the pen with a 2 run lead. Then Romano in the 9th. There’s a good reason why Thornton isn’t used unless it’s eating innings or a blowout. Checked, Garcia not on roster, then Gage should have gone in, Thornton sux
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Cimber faced the meat of the order, good move. Was no odds for the end result.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Choosing relievers is like throwing cold meat on a wall and see what sticks each night. Maybe bologna is what we need. Yes by'... Newfie Steaks!!!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Stripling - 6 innings Mayza - 1 inning Cimber - 1 inning Romano - 1 inning Problem solved.

He used it all on Kikuchi, but it wasn't enough You guys can't be actually serious in throwing Walker under the bus, right? lol

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 You guys can't be actually serious in throwing Walker under the bus, right? lol Not trying to throw him under the bus but also not parading him around like he performs magic. He gets all the credit when someone pitches well but you don't hear a peep when time after time, our pitchers stink.
