RobinThicc Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Max id go on freeman is 5/150. Apparently the braves were offering in the 5/140 range, so I doubt 5/150 gets it done tho. Schwarber should be the main focus.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I would give serious consideration to signing Trevor Story. There are reports that he turned down a 9 figure contract offer asking that he change positions, but he's historically been very good defensively at short stop. Bo could has his choice of either moving to 2nd or 3rd base, he would likely be fine at either position with time and reps. My only concern is whether this would piss off Bo and crater the chances at him signing an extension in the future.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I would do like the Yankees and focus on a shorter deal for a 1B. FF is 32, he could fall off a cliff in a year or two quite easily. Rizzo was a 4-5war/yr player a couple of years ago. I would go for a Schwarber also over a huge deal to a 1B who is 32 that could end up being a disaster contract in the near future.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 The rumors are that the Blue jays are making a push for Kyle Schwarber as 1st/DH player to share with Vladdy. Rumors has it that the Red Sox are in the Freddie Freeman Sweepstakes. Votto has no intention in coming home to Toronto he made that quite clear a few years ago his intention are to retire as a member of the Reds.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Votto or Schwarber as a DH would be a nice fit. Jays need a left handed bat in the middle of their lineup or near the top. They're too heavily right handed. Their only left-handed bat is Biggio.

Votto is going to be 39 and paid $22.5M, that's not something I'm particularly interested in adding to this team. IF we could find a util player who happened to bat lefty, that's cool, but adding a full time DH is just not helpful.

Votto would be more of a deadline luxury acquisition and would depend on what our team looks like in July (what other holes need to be plugged that would be higher priority)

When you're facing tough righties in the postseason, will make somewhat of a difference. I agree, doesn't make sense using the DH slot on only a DH type player. A utility guy who bats left or a switch hitter and who could play all around would be nice. Jurickson Profar would be a nice fit and someone who has some untapped potential.

I'm sure if the Jays are in the thick of things, they'll add another big bat or arm if they could. Hopefully they never go out and add Brad Hand ever again haha.
