EastCoaster Verified Member Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Hall of Famer and baseball legend Tom Seaver passed away at 75. He was the pitcher behind Miracle Mets 20 year veteran with 3640 K 3 time Cy Young winner and a 12 time All-Star. One of the great all time pitchers in game of baseball.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Sad stuff. I was looking at Seaver's numbers today. Pretty spectacular. I was kind of surprised to see that Bert Blyleven had 10 more career WAR than Seaver. It really is remarkable it took baseball so long to get Bert into the HOF.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 April 22, 1970 was one of the all time games by a pitcher. Seaver struck out the final 10 batters in a row — still a record 50 years later — giving him 19 for the day. Seaver and Bench were my first baseball idols.

Don't where you got the numbers but Tom Seaver is 2nd ranked pitcher by WAR behind Roger Clements. Seavers career WAR 109.9 Blyleven 94.5. Seaver has 61 complete game shut outs a MLB record that he still holds today.

The numbers for Seaver and Blyleven are very close.

You can't even sort career WAR by hitters/pitchers or by position. Awful platform.

I am 51-years old and never seen him pitch.
