Playing time? Probably limited, but it is a 30 man roster to start the season...

Even still, there's only so many spots, I don't see it happening. Of those 5 other spots I see pitching, Espinal, and one of Mckinney or Alford making it.

I think Drury with consistent playing time can flash good leather at 3B and adequate power until Groshans/Martin/Orelvis Martinez is ready.

 

Espinal only played 1 game at third base last season and has never hit for anything close to average power, even with the triple-A juiced balls.

 

2018: .109 ISO (AA)

2019: .104 ISO (AA), .115 ISO (AAA)

 

Average is @ .140 ISO or @ 21 home runs in 2019.

 

Even when Drury had a below average replacement level season, he had .163 ISO and 15 HR in 120 games for 2019.

 

He’s already on the 60-pool and 40-man, and most likely ahead of Tejada, Burns, Espinal and Smith in the depth chart.

Jays will find a spot for Drury on the 30 man initial roster, rather than lose him. If that means Espinal to the taxi squad, that's the business side of baseball.

Shaw can't hit lefties, so he'll need to platoon with someone. Drury can't hit anybody, so he doesn't make sense as a platoon mate, but I'm guessing that's the role he would have played. Maybe they will use Espinal in that role in the mean time.

So my take, as this seems to be close to what a MLB line-up could look like.

 

1.) I think they need to have Biggio batting lead off! OBP and speed, and Bichette is a better contact bat to have in the 2 hole and drive in RBIs.

 

Teo should be ahead of Grichuk in the line up, I think he is a better batter.

 

I also think Jansen should be hitting ahead of Fisher.. I also think he is a better hitter..

I'd swap Tellez with Hernandez and Fisher with Jansen in the lineup and that order is about as good as it gets. Hopefully Lourdes doesn't miss any/much time.
