Plat Verified Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Allowing everyone to go to beer stores may add some extra cases. It's a pretty small chance but could happen. Same with restaurants, takeout, beaches. There are at least 10000+ active cases in Canada anyway. If the goal is to very quickly get rid of these, then other strategies, in addition to banning the Jays are needed. If we accept some things are open and we will get rid of these 10000+ cases slowly, then letting the Jays play in Toronto isn't going to change the situation much. Just saying if you are for more serious measures to quickly reduce the case load, you need a lot more than just banning the Jays. Whatever it is we as a country are doing is working right now (opening up with caution, mask policies, social distancing rules, quarantine protocol, etc), this disease is very tricky as a small outbreak can spread like wildfire and numbers can go up exponentially. Is watching the Blue Jays play at the Rogers Center with the blue walls and empty blue seats really worth the small chance of an outbreak, is it worth all the resources and manpower to make sure this asterisk of a season goes ahead perfectly? If the US wasn't such a shitshow this wouldn't be a problem, so if you guys want to direct your hate at someone blame the country to the south of us.

Would you have this same attitude if the US new cases were similar to the numbers they were at the beginning of June, letÂ’s be absolutely honest here. Heck, with how much of a wet dream reality this has been to expose many Canadians anti-Americanism despite the Blue Jays literally playing in a league called the American League, even if the US had around 2,000 cases today, you’d say the same thing about the border. How much of the decision in Ottawa is political, based in anti-Americanism rather than following the solid plan they had to confine everyone to that hotel. Let’s be honest, the true reason of legalization of marijuana for instance was for Trudeau to give the old fuddle duddle to the US. I am not boxcar and don’t know how at all.

Also, y'all f***ers should be happy with everything being done to keep the virus as far away from Canada as possible. It's not fun, even if you survive, 'cause now I have "congestive heart failure" and only a 20% chance of making a full recovery. So thanks virus, I really love all this time I spend with my cardiologist etc...
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I my babe no, sorry. Half in the bag already?

The plan was that no one could leave the hotel under no circumstances. That basically closes the circuit on practically anyone being in contact with the players. As for hotel staff, food could be delivered with no contact with the players, leave it outside the door for instance. If it was such a foolish idea, why did the Ford government approve of it, when heÂ’s probably taken the highest level of caution of any leader of a North American jurisdiction?

Hotel staff, airline staff, airport staff, bus/shuttle staff, bus terminal staff, every player for however many teams they'll be inviting to the dome, every coach for however many teams they'll be inviting to the dome, every support staff person for however many teams they'll be inviting to the dome... All the families for most of those people (I presume they're not paying to keep Jerry the guy who fills up the bus with gas to live in the hotel away from his family for 3 months...) It's a lot of people. And testing every two days just means that you'll know if someone has it every 2-4 days (depending on how long it takes for test results, the more accurate ones still take longer than the instant ones). In those 2-4 days if someone DOES get it, the entire time could be easily infected.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 So sorry to hear this, that is tough Yeah, it is brutal. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Now, to be fair, we're not 100% sure it was coronavirus (as I haven't been able to get -an antibody test yet), but there is enough damage to my heart that they originally thought it was a heart attack, and they've done just so many tests that ruled that, and everything else out. The "best guess" of my cardiologist is a virus, probably Covid. Regardless, this s*** is awful, and there's an 80% chance that I'll be dealing with it for the rest of my life. Hopefully, it will at least get somewhat better, if not 100% though.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Trudeau was behind this. Doug Ford was okay with Jays playing at RC

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 what else could it possibly be they said? It's almost certain that it was a virus, they're just not sure it was Covid, but given the timing that seems plausible at the very least.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I’ll unlock this later tonight. Judging by the reported posts, PMs, and posts in this thread I don’t think most people want to read multi-page covid debates in the popular baseball threads.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 I think Buffalo will be the best option for home games. I cant believe they're even considering Dunedin with all that heat and humidity (plus they are in their rainy season now)

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 So who is going to be the biggest upside surprise this year? Is it Rowdy who's on a tear? Anthony Alford seems on life support but he's hit a couple bombs in summer camp. Does Derek Fisher turn potential into consistency. How about Teoscar taking his hot streak in the second half and showing he's made material change. Is Jordan Romano going to be an impact reliever? Does Trent Thornton build on last year and keep improving? Does Borucki put injuries behind him and show that his new cutter will only allow him to build on his 2018 performances? Who else? Who do you have?

I expect Kay and Dolis to be contributors so I won't consider them possible surprises.
