You dont have to have a crazy payroll and proven superstars to contend. Adding Cole and Pearson to the SP staff and a proven OF and a DH would be more than enough to get us into contender status. Would we be top contenders, probably not....but easily in the contender status range lmao

I love the optimism, but we are close to a 100 loss team this year. Next season we have no reliable starters (yet), a poor to average outfield, no quality depth, Giles (who is going to be traded), Vlad, Bo and a bunch of promising young players.

The foundations are there, but we’d need everything to go right, plus significant investment, to be a contender as early as next season.

Sign Cole and fix some offensive positions and we could easily contend imo

This is real life not MLB The Show

A smart move is probably acquiring EE from the Yankees.

EE has a 20 Million option with 5 Million buyout. There is a near 0 chance Yankees take that considering how much they have in their lineup when everyone is healthy.

The smart move maybe to just acquire him, wouldn't cost much. Yankees would save 5 Mil. We'd have EE for 1 year for 20 Mil. No Obligation, nearly the perfect hitter to hit behind Vlad.

but this is Shatkins, so I cant wait for the garbage heap we lick off of.

I guess the best way to look at it is, putting money aside, and just looking at character...is JD the kind of guy you'd want your daughter dating?

His girlfriend's father is an occasional poster on our board. Why not ask him?

We can easily contend next season. I'm not sure how this front office hasn't clued in yet.

Just need Cole and 4 more starting pitchers, 3 new good OFers, a starting 3B and a less fat 1B.

This should be an easy fix in the offseason.

We all have some good memories of EE, but do we really want a 37 year old DH making $20M for next year? People on here are bitching about Grichuk making $10M when at least he has some positional flexibility and is 10 years younger, I just don't see the appeal of EE in 2020.

People's issue with Grichuk is mainly with the length of the contract not the value.

IMO it'd be better keeping the DH free for rotating players, but a 1 year deal for any amount isn't a negative, especially if we managed to get a prospect thrown in to take the contract.

I mean, if we're getting a prospect just to take on the contract, than I'm all for it. The way this was phrased was "we wouldn't have to give up much to get him" and "the Yankees would save $5M" not "We'll take the contract off their hands if they sweeten the pot".

I'm all for the latter, though that doesn't really seem like a Yankees kinda move.

The Yankees aren’t giving up a prospect to save $5m, and the Jays aren’t going to pay a 37 year old DH $20 million in 2020 when they have so many other pressing needs. Edwin isn’t coming back unless he’s bought out and is willing to sign for nothing. Some team will sign him for decent enough $ this winter. It won’t be the Jays.

As far JD, yeah I don’t see it happening unless the Jays make by far the best offer, and that isn’t going to happen.

Rotating DH is the best move for this team next season. Will give plenty of opportunity to let the kids stay in the lineup even when they are not on the field. Let’s face it this team shouldn’t be entering the mindset of contending next season with the state of this roster. Looking to bridge until 2021 when we might have sufficient number of pieces to compete and payroll flexibility makes much more sense.

You know we'd be bringing him back as part of an effort to win, right?
