Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Giles just made two of the best hitters in baseball look silly that inning.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Yeah I remember he had really good stat cast numbers last season (EV, LA, barrels). Now that is starting to come back after a bad start, combined with a good BB%, and he's playable in the OF. Not a star, but looks like he might be a big league regular if he keeps it up. Teoscar, Fisher and Grichuk all have quite similar tools. It's pretty obvious what this FO's type is.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Is there any possibility that we extend/lock up Giles long term (3/4 yrs)? He is filthy, and having such an elite (don't know the numbers, he looks elite though) back-end to the bullpen can go a long way rather than fishing the market later on (imo).

I would say zero chance. Giving long term extensions to relievers is a risky buisness especially with the injury scares Giles has had. He’s good but you can find relievers. I think you will see less and less long term extensions for them going forward. I love watching Giles pitch don’t get me wrong but he wouldn’t be here right now if he didn’t get injured at the wrong time.

I expect the Jays to trade him in the winter if he has a healthy September. Someone, I think Heyman, mentioned prior to the deadline that Giles wants to stay in Toronto, so maybe an extension is doable, but one year away from free agency after this season and a big arb number points to a trade.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 I would try to re-sign Giles at this point. You never know what kind of deal he might be willing to take. It might increase his trade value if he's on a sweetheart extension. lulz
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Nah, trade Giles to the Twins in a deal for Duran this winter. I'd prefer Graterol/Balazovic but that most likely isn't happening.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Rowdy runs like he's being pushed back by the wind. He's still faster than Smoak.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 He's still faster than Smoak. Benji Molina in retirement might be faster than Smoak.

Maybe see if he'll take a one year extension. Then trade him next deadline as a non rental, and maybe get a nice return (barring he doesn't revert to 2018 Giles).

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Put Fisher in the lineup instead of Smoak. If there is one player on the Jays roster that I'm sick of, it's Justin Smoak.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 Is it time to get just a little concerned regarding Jasenn's bat?
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 Is it time to get just a little concerned regarding Jasenn's bat? He has a 143 wrc+ over the last 3 weeks 176 over the last 2 weeks Exactly 100 over the last 6 weeks. I'm not worried

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 I’m really glad Bo Bichette didn’t become a tennis player
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2019 Posted August 29, 2019 Pat Tabler.. "Now that's pitching(during Bo's last AB). Why just serve up a fastball in a 3-2 count with a five run lead against a good fastball hitter"? If Bo walked on that same breaking ball Pat would be all over it by saying you got to attack the hitter and not risk walking him with a five run lead. He's such an insufferable moron it's almost not real.
