Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 For those of us that were only born that year (great year, by the way), what's the story with the '85 Cards? 100 win team... check out the baserunning, lol. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=1985&month=0&season1=1985&ind=0&team=28&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=&enddate=
5minutesforframing Verified Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 None of the pitchers for the Jays in this game should be in the show.

That Cards team was absolutely stacked offensively and led on the pitching front by a very effective John Tudor. Tabby's clueless. I've been informed by sources that the Mariners have had a disgustingly bad offense for a decade and nothing has changed.

Gaviglio and Mayza are decent relievers. But I am not sure if Thornton is any good - seemed to be better earlier in the season, so maybe he is starting to run out of gas as the looong MLB season drags on. But yeah, this is an embarrassingly bad pitching staff right now. Pretty hard to watch this team - I feel bad for the people who made the effort and financial outlay to go down to Seattle and watch this crap.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 This game feels like it's been going on forever
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 This game feels like it's been going on forever It has, it's gonna be a 4 hour 8.5 inning game at worst if it ends here. Painfully slow, like playing in Fenway.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 This game rapidly went downhill after the first inning. Just awful baseball from that point forward.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Thornton getting lit up against one of the worst teams in baseball is not a good sign
wk680 Verified Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Thornton getting lit up against one of the worst teams in baseball is not a good sign It seems that of the current crop of starting pitchers on the roster (Waguespack, Thornton, Pannone, Reid-Foley), only Waguespack is trending upward. I guess we'll see if the others show any signs of life in the remaining 5 weeks of this season. It will be interesting to see what acquisitions the Jays make via the FA and trade market heading into 2020 and how that accentuates the competition between the internal candidates for remaining spots in the 2020 rotation. Interesting times ahead:eek:
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Trent Thornton putting up 1.3 fWAR thus far in his rookie season is hardly a bad thing. *smh*

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 So you say that he's been doing fine and also agree that he will be sent down if he continues pitching the way he has. Wut?

No, what I'm saying he's been fine as a rookie, if he continues to pitch like he has lately, with the frequent blowup starts, he likely won't stick in the back of the rotation next season. I assume he'll be better and stick, though.
