I love watching the young kids come up and produce more than anyone, but I think the Toronto media was getting carried away regarding the offensive hype since Bo was called up. If you look at the pitchers they produced well against, it was against a lot of scrubs from the Royals, Orioles, Rangers, Mariners and some of the weaker pitchers from the Yanks and Rays... It's a good sign, yes, but the hype I've heard on the radio and Rogers Sportsnet has been a little much.

For me, a big telling point would be how they fared against Dodgers pitching, and they looked over matched and had a hard time stringing together hits. Other players who understand the art of pitching like Tanaka and to a lesser extent Kikuchi also carved them up.

Nobody said there wouldn't be bumps in the road, but it seems to me like Sportsnet has really gone into hype overdrive ever since the fan backlash from the Stroman trade

Yep

I was thinking the same thing

This is also why you need insulation. Why Reddox signed JD Martinez and why we need to have a Cruz or EE or Donaldson next year

Bo and Vlad fared pretty well. The rest though had a serious reality check

We've had a bad few years and Vlad didn't hit the ground running, can you really blame people for getting a bit carried away with Bo having a great start and us having a young exciting core? It's just nice to have some good Jays news for a change.

Who was getting hyped up? 90% of our lineup is hitting closer to .200 than .300 and it's the end of August.

We have two actual starting pitchers, neither of which anyone expected anything from.

Vlad and Bo are the two guys we expect to hit and they are hitting.

August wRC+ numbers

Vlad - 198

Bo - 151

Jansen - 121

Grichuk - 144

Teo - 109 (158 in July)

McKinney - 154

McGuire - 115

Add in a healthy Gurriel and squint when you look at Biggio's plate discipline, hard hit %, LD%, etc. and it's not that difficult to see why the media, who've had to endure this god awful season, are going to talk up this offense.

Also - Outside of Vlad and Bo - you're saying the offense hit s***** pitching and didn't succeed v. Kershaw, Buehler and Meada? Stop the f***ing press! Next on the 6 pm news. New research has confirmed that water is wet.

Worse is the overall OPS. Compare the Dodgers starters to the Jays. It is really sad.

What a stupid thread...... Especially after going against some of the best pitchers in baseball. Let people be excited for the future, there is potential for this offense to be great...No one is saying they are the best offense ever right now.

Exactly, one of the dumbest threads I have seen on here and that really is saying something.

Give it a year or two and this offence is going to be elite...probably better than the EE, Bautista , JD days.

2015 EE, Bautista, JD will be tough to top. 120 bombs with a wrc+ of 150, 148 and 154.

This is so dumb, Dodgers have some of the best pitching in the MLB and the jays were still able to make 2 of the games winnable.

Im not sure what you expected, but it’s foolish to expect to score 5+ against the Dodgers

EDIT: Checked fangraphs and Dodgers have fewest runs against in the MLB. So... best pitching in the sport. Yer dum

Marco Gonzales manhandled these guys today... Case in point regarding my OP

Your OP was about Bo? He's been killing everyone, same goes for Vladito.

Nah man, I was discussing the offense as a whole. I know you guys have had a measured response, but the talking heads across T.V. and radio have been overly sensational and have been ranting and raving over quite a small sample size. Bo and Vlad have no doubt looked awesome, but that leaves 7 other roster starting spots.

I only bumped this thread after the bats looked cold because some of the responses were a little harsher than I anticipated.

This thread and this post is so dumb I think you must be trolling? Aaron Sanchez pitched a no hitter for 6 innings this year. (statistically the worst started in baseball)..are you going to post this every time an offense gets shut down? The Yanks have gotten shut down by scrubs this year, does their offense need a reality check?
