Best I can tell, the appeal is to impress friends and family with your high tech fridge.

I have a smart thermostat (hooked into my Google Home system) and it's handy. I can make sure that my tenants aren't f***ing with the heat/AC no matter where I am!

Smart appliances make sense when you're talking about brands like Thermador, Miele and Sub-Zero/WOLF. On most brands that use s*** components you're better off avoiding them at all costs.

I'm going to go ahead and say with a great deal of confidence that they don't have that skill-set. Also, it's not like I keep it freezing or anything, I am 100% compliant with all heating laws AND I have central air (which I'm not required to do by law) so it's not some slum-lord situation.
