Radio Scouts Podcast Episode 25: Gurriel Has Blossomed into a Beautiful Pineapple

I agree with John and Alan, 130+ wRC+ and 25+ HR for LGJ

If he just hit slightly above average and stays healthy he could end up 120 wRC+ and 20 homers at this point, I'm optimistic he can ride this a bit longer and it's not a complete fluke.

The low BB rates are still concerning, but his other statcast numbers are very encouraging.

He's top 3% in WOBA .418, top 7% in SLG% with 45.9 HH% and 13.1% barrels. Exit velo, launch angle, everything is solid except walks.

But I expect his crazy production vs breaking/offspeed pitches to come back down to earth a bit. I don't think he can sustain wOBA .360-390+ type numbers on pitches like sliders and changeups just because that's very unusual for a guy that isn't known to work counts (and very few MLB hitters can sustain those type of numbers).

He is chasing a bit less though, and walking a tick more than last year which is a good trend.

Lmao @ John's comment "much higher quality of s***"

edit: I totally lost it after the 10 min rant about Trevor Bauer vs Keith Law and then finishes the segment with "This podcast brought to you by ESPN insider and The Athletic"

Comment on lightning round: Raptors absolutely need more 3 point shooting and a backup plan if their aging big men completely fall off a cliff.

I don't have names without studying the FA list but it's a very real issue if they want to take it to the next level (assuming Kawhi stays). Danny Green to Mavs also a real possibility, that’s a lot of quality 3pt shots gone if it happens.

It might have to come via trade and not free agency. Their only option is MLE and vet min contracts which doesn't give them a ton to choose from and we're way over the cap and hitting luxury tax threshold payroll.

Input = output

Remember a computer is only as Smart as the ******* who programmed it !!!

Then whomever programmed your unfinished program is decidedly weird.

Starting to get more caught up on these. You guys are doing a great job. Stick with it and go ham on twitter trying to promote this. I loved the Bauer discussion. Even though you guys probably don't agree with him politically you are able to compartmentalize that and still offer your true opinions in that you think he's good for the game. I feel like that's rare among baseball writers these days.

Quick question- What are the real life/board names of everyone involved? You guys all have good radio voices too, damn!

Oh really? Please explain

Some of you guys have been on this / old forum for over 10 years and still getting fooled by hot streaks/poor process and falling in love with unsustainable results over small sample sizes. I'm not sure whos worse most of Jays fans/writers last year with The Mirage, this year with Gurribabip, ECJF with JPA when he came up, Grant with Aaron Sanchez, or me with Randy Ruiz and Brad Mills back in the day.

Gurribabip is not good at beisboll, why is so hard to understand?

Poor process leads to poor results long term always, Gurribabip is no diff

I don't know if Gurriel is good or not, but you need a new pejorative for him. His career BABIP is 0.326, which isn't even that high given that he hits the ball harder than most hitters.

It would be like incessantly calling a pitcher some lame play on FIP-beater because he has a 3.5 ERA and 3.6 FIP.

Naw Gurribabip 4 life, hes a freeswinger/hacker who looks really good when pitchers give him cookies hence the high babip, but f***in dreadful when pitchers don't give him cookies/attack his flaws.

Where will he end? IDK Time will tell, variance is weird
