DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Not to mention having EE would mean Smoak never would have emerged, nor would it have mad any difference to us being a contender. OP is an idiot. I

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 And that's pretty much the intelligence on here LOL..says the guy who champions RBI's....and thinks EE would have made us a contender.

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Yup. The single best thing this FO has done was resist the temptation to try extending the window by locking up the old core. Price is worth nowhere near the money he makes. Bautista is completely cooked. Donaldson is almost cooked. Edwin is still mashing, but it’s still a 2-win DH profile. On the aggregate, walking away from all of those guys and clearing the books was the right move. this is a succinct way of putting it. So many people are mad at this regime because they aren't competing but really there was no way to make that dumpster fire of a core work. We would have had to dump 200M+ into free agent deals and probably trade all our remaining prospects (who even was there to trade after 2016? Probably just Vlad?) to legitimately compete in 2017 and 2018, and then we still might be in the same garbage situation that we are in now for 2019 but without any of the hope on the horizon
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 Yeah - the only move in hindsight that would have been better is rather than signing Morales after EE turned our initial offer down, wait it out to see if EE changed his mind. But the FO didn’t want a situation where our first 2 options signed elsewhere when we were still aiming for the playoffs. EE would have been easier to move than Morales for an actual asset once the rebuild started as he’s still pretty good and a plus for a competing team. But we can’t really assign blame to the FO considering the situation at the time. Thing is, we don't know what was said between the parties during negotiations. It wouldn't surprise me, since his buddy Jose was already gone, that there was messaging that EE wasn't really interested in staying in TO
