glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Great interview, but damn that part about minor league pay made my blood boil. Working at McDonald's is more lucrative than being a minor league baseball player. That's a joke. No wonder multi sport players choose other sports. Seriously, I hate SJWs as much as anyone, but have anyone with credibility retweet this interview and have minor league pay become a real topic. To borrow a joke from Married with Children, I made more money losing a tooth when I was a kid than these guys make in low-A.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Great interview. He was well-spoken, and candid without saying anything that would get him into trouble. I thought you guys did a great job.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 "maybe he broke his jaw." lol
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Author Posted January 11, 2019 I really don't know, that's just where my mind went. Dude got charged for punching his girlfriend, so I guess "broken jaw" immediately made me try to figure out the DV angle to your joke, which clearly wasn't there. So you really think I'm a misogynist, racist bigot. Any other labels you want to throw on the pile there?

Yep, that part really made me contemplate if I wanted to keep supporting this league. It actually disgusts me. They pay Tulo 40 million to play for the Yankees while they have minor leaguers living off the scraps from the team spread. This has got to change. I'm not fan of virtue signaling or moral grandstanding but s*** like this is why a completely free market can't work. I absolutely loved the part where he talked about each affiliate having a dedicated dietician and then the players not being able to afford the things they were told to eat. Mind boggling. Also, they are required to attend extended Spring, but are not required to be paid. I don't want to invoke this term, but how the hell is this not slavery?

They lead up to the joking talking about him being a porker. I thought it was pretty obvious what he was getting at with the broken jaw thing.

Why they'd prefer to bury this is beyond me. We aren't just promoting ourselves, we're promoting an overlooked guy that all of us actually believe in. He's instantly become one of my favourite prospects in the entire system.

I can't see how it would violate their rules though because you aren't promoting your own site and you are an active member of their CoMmUnItY! You could message the mods. Laika Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 So you really think I'm a misogynist, racist bigot. Any other labels you want to throw on the pile there? Sure. You discriminate against people based on their choice of transportation. Not sure what the specific world for that is. Wheelist? Your Timmies article also makes you an anti-capitalist treasoner.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 That Minor League pay aspect was a great discussion. So frustrating. How is this not taken more seriously? These teams can hire people to shop for the guys and do weekly grocery deliveries. Invest in your people. There's all this focus on a high performance culture...isn't diet, and making sure your people have the resources to follow said diet, a huge part of that?

I don't see how adding financial stress and starving your f***ing players can possibly good for the farm system as a whole. It's amazing that some guys stick with it for so long.

I'm against people who are dumb buying stuff for some misguided need for national pride.
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Retweet, please. You need to get it retweeted by someone with a large amount of followers. It only snowballs from there. Maybe slide into the DMs of someone like Stoeten or Keegan Matheson, or bloggers like BlueJaysFromAway. The Meg Rowley or Emily Waldon idea was good too.I'd try Waldon as she seems open to discussions with the masses. She even tweeted this today:

They can at least do things like have catered meals available everyday or have food/groceries delivered to the players weekly for them to use whichever way they want. I mean in the grand scheme of things if they doubled the pay of every minor leaguer currently in the system, how much would it really cost overall? Given the numbers Winckowski was throwing out there, probably nothing noticeable. This is awful. I knew minor leaguers got paid s*** but didn't know it was that low.

I need to make some audiograms tonight and then I'll start the barrage of tweets. I feel like once we tweet to Ms. Waldon et al, we'll get some hits.
