Having an actual player be the Executive Director of the Players Union always seemed like a terrible idea. It's a job meant for Labor Lawyers.

Any true baseball fan with a modicum of legal experience would probably be better than him (i.e. Laika)

They have 13 full time lawyers on staff (including the director they hired away from the NHL). The idea of hiring Clark (who was rumoured to have enrolled in Law School at the time of his hiring) was that he'd be more of a face. This is where he has failed. He never talks about the initiatives (has anyone even heard of the MLBPI? They have 3 people who's entire job is video games...and yet MLB The Show has done nothing to help the game), he's failed at helping to grow the international game (The world baseball classic is probably his biggest failure). And Marketing the players which he's done a good job of saying the MLB has done a terrible job of...even though it's really their job. He has hired a lot of his buddies though.

MVP Baseball (the one with Manny on it) was probably the greatest baseball video game made up to that point, and they chose The Show instead. I own several different versions of The Show, and do like it, but had they went with EA Sports I think it would have benefited them. (Sidenote: I actually really enjoyed playing High Heat Baseball as a straight up sim as it was the first baseball game that had an entire minor league system.)

Blue Jays VP of baseball operations and former Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington is a candidate to be the Pirates’ next head of baseball operations, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter link). Cherington has worked for Toronto for the last three-plus seasons, after taking a little over a year away from baseball after being fired by the Sox in August 2015.

Honestly surprised Cherington has lasted so long in Toronto. Figured he'd get another shot sooner or later. Hopefully the Pirates go with someone else.

Australia lost in extras to Cuba. Them winning would have made this a win and in game for sure. Now Canada needs to win and make sure that Cuba doesn't win big against South Korea.

Canada lost 3-1, in the 8th a 2 run double killed them, apparently Canada can't advance even though they have the same record as Australia and Cuba, and a better run differential, that's DUMN. Korea's up 4-0 on Cuba in the bottom of the 5th.

Edit: They don't count runs against, just runs scored, yeah that's f***ed up, Godammit!

South Korea: RS - 15, RA - 1... + 14

Australia: RS - 5, RA - 9... - 4

Canada: RS - 5, RA - 6... -1

Cuba: RS - 3, RA - 12... -9

They kept saying run differential during the telecast, no, it ended up runs scored, plus H2H stunned f***ing bikes!!!

DUMN!!! End Rant/ :P

The Canadian baseball program seems really stunted. They should perform better than they do.

You are correct that MVP baseball was BY FAR the better game, however it was EA that f***ed that one up. They went out and signed an exclusive deal w/ the NFL player likenesses, so Take Two said "f*** YOU *******S" and did the same with the MLB, so EA wasn't allowed to use player likenesses anymore.

Probably hockey reasons. I wonder if it would help if we had more milb teams that played across Canada. I imagine it'd be easier to get kids hooked on a sport if they could see more games in person.

I don't think it's really a talent issue. Canada seems to produce an appropriate number of MLB players and there are always Canadians in the draft now.

I mean the Baseball Canada program seems kind of wonky. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

lol... I know. Still ranked 10th in the World. :P They only allowed 6 runs against, silver linings. Not to mention so many no-shows.

Um..... ok! Tough to grasp?

Only thing tough to grasp is why you feel the need to post every thought that goes through your head even though it’s not necessarily interesting.

Are there even 10 nations where baseball is played professionally?

The US team is stacked with prospects, kids against Japan in the final, likely.

It's funny to see a team with top prospects (Bohm, Adell, Vaughn) and some f***ing ancient guys like Erik Kratz and Clayton Richard. Kratz is 19 years older than Jo Adell!

These Olympic team setups are such nonsense. What a flawed system.

I'm not sure who "didn't show up" for Canada, but when you're trying to encourage them to come out and play with Stubby Clap and Rob Ducey - I get why they decline.

How about you go take a spin cycle on a T-Rex sized dick ya f***ing geriatric douchecanoe. This is the Around Baseball thread and provided a live stream, knob jockey.

Lots didn't show, nor do I blame them either after playing a full season of ball. To each their own man, you don't have to care.

15 professional leagues, I don't get why that matters though, they're playing for there country? The guys that don't play in the MLB play in other professional leagues around the world. Apparently there are 76 nations with a team...

https://rankings.wbsc.org/list/baseball/men

Obviously a country with its own professional teams is going to have a bigger player pool to select from. I was surprised Canada are so low.

It snows here for 5 months a year, bro. This is likely the highest they've ever been. :P

All it took was abandoning the city of Montreal and 15 years!
