One potential problem is that if you get an owner who is only looking to make money, you’re killing a franchise by taking away draft picks. It’d prob make more sense to say you can’t have revenue sharing more than 3 losing seasons in a row.

They don't hand pick who gets revenue sharing anymore. So it's barely a problem these days.

In Major League Baseball, 48% of local revenues are subject to revenue sharing and are distributed equally among all 30 teams, with each team receiving 3.3% of the total sum generated.

Local revenue is local TV contract, plus gate, plus merchandise + concession contract.

They would have to shorten the season. I know there are a lot of people that wouldn’t like it, but for me it’d be a good thing. 162 games is far too many.

I've been saying for a long time that they need to shorten the season to 150 games and expand the playoffs by a full round (in place of the wildcard). That really does take care of a good portion of the issues.

WAR for relievers isn't the best, but bear with me for a second. Here's the top 10 relievers by fWAR just two seasons ago, and their current status:

1. Kenley Jansen Dodgers

2018
: 0.3 WAR

2019
: 0.9 WAR

Once one of the premier relievers in the game, now seen as a liability on the best team in baseball

2. Craig Kimbrel Red Sox

2018
: massive drop off to 1.3 WAR, awful in the playoffs

2019
: unsigned for the entire offseason and midway through the year, -0.6 WAR

3. Roberto Osuna Blue Jays

2018
: DV scandal, 1.1 WAR

2019
: 1.0 WAR, has gotten worse across the board

4. Corey Knebel Brewers

2018
: ERA ballooned but still good otherwise, stupidly demoted, 1.0 WAR

2019
: TJS

5. Pat Neshek Phillies/Rockies

2018/2019
: has pitched a combined 42 innings, 0 WAR

6. Chad Green Yankees

2018
: 1.7 WAR, slightly less effective but still excellent

2019
: 0.9 WAR, demoted once, turned into opener, HRs skyrocketed

7. Andrew Miller Indians

2018
: injured, 0.4 WAR

2019
: -0.6 WAR, his constant usage in the regular season + postseason caught up to him

8. Felipe Vazquez Pirates

2018
: 2.1 WAR

2019
: 1.8 WAR (still a month left to go remember), is still one of the top relievers in the game

9. Mike Minor Royals

2018
: 2.5 WAR as a solid starter

2019
: 4.3 WAR (!!!) in a career rejuvenation breakout

10. Anthony Swarzak White Sox/Brewers

2018/2019
: -1.1 WAR

You can go and take a look at this year's top 10 for comparison. Moral of the story: relievers are extremely volatile so don't invest heavily on them.

I suspect part of the issue is the cost disparity between cost controlled players and free market contracts. The bottom line calculus favours rostering cost controlled guys over veterans that will cost $4-5 million more each for just an additional win or two (or be an entirely sunk cost).

Part of the solution should be to increase the pay of players under control. Is it still $500K for the first 3 years or something?

This would adjust the calculus so teams are more apt to sign veterans and keep the borderline prospect types on the farm for more 'seasoning'.

The Dodgers will play one of Houston or NY in the WS. That's almost a certainty. Parity hasn't been a big issue previously so I'm not sure what's going on. I think a draft lottery would help.

I gotta hand it to teams like the Mets and Padres. They aren't good teams and should be looking to shed salary to tank, but they just keep trying to win. That mentality needs to be more widespread.

How much, bruh? I agree on the latter, Jays should go that route now as soon as this year. We can rebuild and compete now, in concerns of money.

Micheal Kay just said we might see Openers in the PS... What's your guys thoughts on this? I believe we'll see it with the weaker staffs for sure, depends on the BP too, I guess.

Hard to say. Teams will already cut down the staffs to probably 3 starters, and most postseason teams may have a few starters better than the relievers they could bring in. If Tampa gets in, we'll see it for sure.

Milwaukee, Cleveland, Oakland, Minnesota, Cards, etc... I see lots of teams doing it now.

Cleveland probably won't do it with Clevinger or Bieber or Kluber (if he returns). Carrasco, maybe.

Milwaukee isn't really using it so far. It would be pretty tempting to stick Hader out there for once through the order though.

Oakland isn't using it much, but they probably should be.

Minnesota isn't using it much. I'm not sure if they'd do it for Berrios or Odorizzi. Gibson could possibly benefit from it.

Cards aren't using it. I can't see them doing so for Flaherty or Mikolas. Wainwright could probably benefit from it a lot at this stage in his career.

Fair enough, we'll see. I'm glad someone responded.

I think if they're going to do it, they need to do so in the next few starts. I think it would be pretty stupid to suddenly upend a starter's routine right when it matters most.

Good point, like I'm getting f***ed by Maeda again.

There are so many f***ing days off in the post season that you could do this a couple times per series without it burning out your pen. The discussion on how to fit in more playoff series is easy - eliminate all the days off and mimic the regular season (more closely).

Yeah, the off days change the game, which sucks. I think they're built in to accommodate weather though.

Michael Lorenzen today: pitched the 7th and 8th innings (not particularly well), stayed in to hit and jacked a 2-run bomb, and then played the 9th inning as the team's CF. Now that's f***ing awesome.

Apparently also the first player since Babe Ruth to get a win, homer, and play on the field. And I bet that fat ass Babe wasn't playing CF.

Babe played 74 games in CF.

Hanser Alberto of the Orioles is putting up one of the most empty high average seasons in a while. He has a .321 batting average, but only an overall 106 wRC+, in part because he's walking just 2.8% of the time en route to a .343 OBP and his middling power resulting in a .128 ISO. On the other hand, he also has ridiculous platoon splits, putting up a 167 wRC+ against lefties with an impressive .418 average, compared to a measly 64 wRC+ against RHP.

Dave took Roberts out in the 5th inning at 99 pitches, Kershaw was not a happy camper, than the incoming pitcher gives up a double 2 runs score on Kershaw's line, lol.

While I understand Kershaw being pissed, the Dodgers have things wrapped up for the postseason. There's no reason to push a guy now that they need completely healthy in a few weeks.

I know why he did it, just never saw Kershaw do that before.

Pineda hit with a PED suspension for a diuretic. Apparently the arbiter believed his story and they reduced his suspension to 60 games.

Funny, I was taken aback yesterday to see him hitting 95-96 against the Tribe. I was thinking "wow, I didn't know he was still slinging it that well"... Funny that the next day he's suspended for PED's.
