Alford is terrible. No idea why so many people are torn up about him being in the minors. I get this season doesn't matter, but what's the point of trying to get water from a stone? Alford will provide AAA depth probably for the rest of his career.

If Shatkins believes Brito can possibly break out given a chance and a change of scenery, the same can be said regarding Alford, regardless of his poor AAA season last year. The time and money spent on Alford is alone in giving him a shot, especially is a season like this. Maybe the glamourous lifestyle in the MLB will ignite something in him, who knows?

Or they want to see what they have in Brito for a month, call up Alford when need be, they're smarter than you, gruber. Stupid thing to complain about, honestly.

Lol, ok. How about batting him second tonight vs Bauer after not having a competitive at bat in 10 days?

Also, where "decent young lottery ticket" = fringe org top 50 prospect.

Wow... hot take, once again Boxbike shows off his MILB intellect, and not understanding either prospect or fringe prospect. *smh*

Not worth anyones energy to debate this. Brito will get a chance, will likely fail

Who cares, really. It's a punt season, they want to gather as much info as possible. Fairly obvious to me.

You still have to put forth an element of competitiveness and bat him eighth or ninth. C'mon man..

Do you have Orozco in the top 30?

Alford has so much potential with just his defense and base running. He has a .360 OBP for his minor league career. He hasn't shown a lot of power, but he has good bat speed. There are plenty of examples of guys who went on to be good power hitters who didn't necessarily show it in the minors. Alford has tremendous strength and athleticism. You can't teach that.

Giving up on Alford is short sighted imo and he went 2 for 4 today..lol.

lol... who? :P I gotcha! Gruber's dumn.

Someone else seems dumb too. Can't quite put my finger on it.

You are trying too hard.

Justin Woodell (also repeated by a nameless MLB scout) stated that the version of Alford he saw in spring training is a version that he hasn't seen before, and he has seen Alford a lot through his struggles. Players like him with elite tools and athleticism can flip a switch in a second, and its not like he didn't just come off a hamate injury.

Alford broke his hamate in like, May 2017. Hamate injuries can linger but giving him a full mulligan on the entirety of 2018 is kind of stretching out the grace period. He also wasn't dogshit in 2017 after the injury.

People are also wayyyyy to quick to scream breakout as soon as a toolsy player looks good. Fact is, Anthony Alford tends to always look really f***ing good unless it's August and you know what his slashline is.

Nobody should think Alford is actually figuring it out until it starts to show up in the somewhat stable regular season stats.

Sure, players like Alford can flip a switch but the majority of them never do.

Obviously. Boxy just ran the tercet route, it's too easy.

I really hope Biggio gets a shot this year. I can't stand to think that we have a guy in AAA who had an 18% walk rate in the minors last year being blocked by Gurriel who takes less walks than some guys get hit by pitches in a season. On top of that Biggio is a much better base running and a better defender. He's turning 24 in a week..give the kid his shot.

all that is fine and dandy, but he's being blocked by Brito. It may be unlikely that either flip that switch as you say, but if you were going to wager on which player might flip that switch who are you going to bet on. I'm going with my man Alford.

Biggio has literally played one game in AAA and he had a 26% K rate last year in New Hampshire.

The thought process towards even thinking about beginning to think about complaining that he is "blocked" is just... mind boggling.

Good thing Toronto has a mother f***ing AAA affiliate and they can, you know, keep both of them and hedge their bets.

Jesus christ.

Biggio just played his first ever AAA game today - he will be up, inevitably. Gurriel isn't currently blocking anyone, even Biggio.

What does that have to do with the 18% walk rate he had last year. He walked 100 times, hit 26hrs, stole 20 bags. My opinion on Biggio has nothing to do with his 3 for 4 start today. This team desperately needs guys who can get on base. I guess you'd rather watch a guy like Gurriel swing at everything and play crap defense. That's just not my cup of tea. I don't need to see a guy with an advanced approach at the plate play a full season in AAA to replace a guy like Gurriel.

Gurriel has barely had a cup of coffee this year? There's no need yet to adjust the 40 man, wake up.

How many hitters skip AAA? Why are you complaining that a hitter isn't skipping AAA? If Biggio hits, he's going to be up this year.

It doesn't serve the Jays well at all to shove Biggio past AAA. If he hits well this season, he will be up later this season.

Your beef is bizarre.
