Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 If only there was more to pitching then velocity..... You may end up being right but his FB velocity won't be why. There's is, but velocity is a big factor. If it wasn't there would be tons of dudes throwing 89 in the majors. There really aren't.

This has been debated before. If you have elite velo + average control/command you're fine. If you have elite control/command then you don't need the velo. Simply put, velo is more forgiving. You don't get damaged as much throwing 95+ as long as it's in the zone somewhere. You can see what happens to command/control guys like Estrada when they miss their spots, though I wouldn't grade his command as elite. It's good but not elite.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I don't know for sure what's happening, but our GM seems to have more control now (he had lost a lot of power after trying to get the Toronto job). Trades are much quicker and not being vetoed (e.g. Britton before the injury, and Brach back when he sat at 95MPH rather than 92MPH, which would a yielded a much greater return. This really would have sped up the rebuilding). Peter Angelos has taken a step back and his sons seems to be taking over ownership. They are going to be more involved in the International market (better late then never), something that P. Angelos would never allow. They are cutting cost which figures, but there's also a chance the O's will be sold. So we'll see what happens. Anyways, good luck to you guys. I've always thought of the Blue Jays as brothers in a sense, in the wake of the 2 Goliath's in our division. If it's not us I hope it's the Jays than can at least give them a run for their money and maybe even steal a spot from them sometime in the coming years. Best Wishes! Duquette's interviews on MLB radio recently have been pretty interesting. Talking about how the ownership and Front Office have admitted that they are years behind in staffing, systems and of course international scouting/spending. And more importantly they have committed to provide the funds needed to get caught up. Duquette did make it sound like he'd still be part of the future though, which is unexpected. I love watching the O's fail and it looks like they will do so for the next while but it should be interesting to watch and see how they can work with a clean state and starting with virtually nothing (the first overall pick, by all accounts Bobby Witt Jr, is probably your best asset and KC is trying hard to f*** that up for you).
