Gurriel can't even walk when he gets 4 balls. I bet he knew, but the man just loves to hit.

LGJ is just so fun to watch holy s***. That’s an insane 10 game strech.

Juri may be right when he said that LGJ was better than him...exciting young player.

You mean Yuli right? He was just being modest, Yuli Gurriel was possiy the most coveted international player of all-time while he was in Cuba.

LGJ has already out homered him 7-6 this season in less than half the at-bats!

If his brother is any indication, the Gurriel's don't walk. Period.

Then he probably won't be a very good hitter going forward

Tell that to Javy Baez.

It's not ideal, but it can be workable especially if you don't strike out a lot and have good speed.

He also isn't actually chasing everything. Hes just aggressive swinging at strikes in the strike zone. Hes not letting counts get deep so he rarely see's 4 pitches let alone 4 balls. He will definitely need to learn to take his walks when hes getting nothing to hit. But his approach doesn't seem that bad. Hes laid off pitches I have seen Pillar and Hernandez swing at regularly.

Good thing we have stats for this. He's swinging at 40% of pitches outside of the strike zone (league average is 30%) but also making contact with pitches outside the zone at an above average rate. Comparable players with his outside swing/contact rates are the likes of Eddie Rosario, Eduardo Escobar, Eduardo Nunez, Dee Gordon. His PD stats have been nearly identical to Pillar across the board.

To be honest with you that kind of surprises me. I guess the difference being hes getting to those pitches that are outside and still hitting them hard when players are typically getting feeble contact on those pitches.

He's been a little bit lucky too. He's hitting .378 on groundballs with 17 singles in 45 PAs.

I don't think he will ever be a high walk guy. But considering the drastic improvements hes already made. I think if they came to him with this information hes the type to sit down and listen. I'm not going to get overly excited about his future but I think his raw talent is intriguing AF.

Looks like Diaz might be the guy that see's his playing time reduced the most. Another SS start for LGJ I think that's where they will mostly want to see him play down the stretch.

He was playing hurt, I wouldn't read to much into that.
