5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Is it simply just a case of pitching into some bad luck or is there more to it? Looking at his advanced stats, it doesn't seem like there's any difference to pinpoint. What do you guys think? We definitely need him performing if there's any shot at remaining competitive this season.
RotatorCuff Verified Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I think he is turning into the non starter that happens to all pitchers as short as he is. That's all we heard about him when he was coming up but now nobody mentions that historically pitchers his size dont last long as starters.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Combination of stubbornly sticking to his pitching philosophy/gameplan and his BB/9 dialing up to 5 this season.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Batters seem very comfortable in the box against him, and they're putting good swings on the ball. He either needs to make them a little more uncomfortable, or maybe he's tipping pitches.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I guess height can measure poor performance

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Walking batters then Martin tipping pitches with runners on base

We definitely need him performing if there's any shot at remaining competitive this season. 2 Things I have noticed... 1) he doesn't seem to be using his deception pitch set up like he did last year, that double pump and single pump seems different. 2) That over the top personality seems calmed down. He needs them both back. Be that pitcher that annoys the other team
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 He may be but the catcher 100% is To add to this, the catchers glove angle (especially Martin's) is tipping pitches. More angled for offspeed and breaking balls then for fastballs
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I think he is finally taking more instruction and is fighting with his hate for change.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Overrated, low pitch angle, smart hitters, pitching to contact
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 He's walking more guys but hasn't been as terrible as his numbers suggest. His LOB% is terrible and his HR/FB% is bad as well.
