Long overdue move. It means Gurriel has basically cemented the 2B job until Donaldson returns, then it'll be likely a Solarte/Gurriel platoon (with Gurriel getting some SS time if Diaz keeps struggling.)

Sounds like a win - win short term move with the bullpen taxed and the double header this week with no days off. Travis will be back in a few weeks..

Not sure why...this is tupid imo. Diaz should be gone imo. Travis is gonna heat up and Diaz is awful

Diaz can play SS though. As gruber says this is a short term move, and it allows Travis to get some at bats in at AAA and come back refreshed, and hopefully successfully.

Diaz being bad is the norm but he's solid defensively. Devon looks lost at the plate and on the field. I think a period in AAA will do wonders to bring his timing back and his focus back

Didn't he homer against Sale and triple in the same game...I would not say lost. He has been getting better while Diaz is like 2 for 40.

Too early to send him down. I'm not sold Gurriel or Diaz are any better and we've seen slow starts from Travis before. I guess they figure Donaldson will be back soon and the pen is taxed so they wanted to grab a fresh arm for a few days until Donaldson returns.

This FO is so pragmatic, I love it. Next up, DFA Morales.

Trade Morales to the Royals for Goins, haha.

Kind of a suprising a move considering he just homered and tripled in the same game lol.

But sign me up for more LGJ dude is hitting bullets with absolutely no luck.

Gurriel sure has cemented himself at 2nd with that 69 wRC+ he's posted so far. Can't take that guy out of the lineup!

I just read an interesting angle on the Travis demotion - if he's in the minors for at least 15 days, then we'll have him under control for an extra year through the 2021 season.

So 2/3 weeks to refind his batting form makes even more sense now.

Can you link that, that doesn't sound right at all?

From the Toronto Star - link

Players on the disabled list still earn MLB service time, moving them closer to free agency. Travis has been on the DL four times, for a total of 271 days, more than half of his major-league time; if he stayed on the MLB roster or DL, he would have been eligible for free agency at the end of the 2020 season.

If the Jays keep him in the minors for at least 15 days, they will then have him under club control through the 2021 season. That, of course, means Travis will likely remain with the Bisons until at least May 15 when the Jays travel to play the Mets, perhaps even longer.

Wow... that's great, I thought he surpassed that threshold a while ago, thanks for the read.;)
