One Milwaukee Brewer who appeals to me a ton is Domingo Santana.

He's a RF primarily, but man he'd be a nice add for TO. Give a major uptick to offense.

In TO he might be a 30/100 guy. And he has years of control. I think as it is he is stuck behind Yelich in RF.

Grischuk, Alford and Santana would be an effective and fun outfield.

I don't know what it would take to get Santana. It might take a Bichette.

Atkins sure does say the right things, how that lines up with the actions of the administration remains to be seen. I would think it does, but there isn't enough conclusive evidence.

A) Ultimately what he is saying is that the service time requirement to free agency has to be reduced.

B) The practice of keeping players in the minors to control their service time, such as the Cubs and the Rays employ is unfair to the player, as they are using up their peak earning times.

What I would like to see is a system, like the NBA, where if the player is extended by their own team, then they have a higher earning power. That way, while service time to Free Agency can be reduced, players have an incentive to reup with their own teams. This would also discourage the practices of the Rays, Marlins, and the recent world series champs. I hate the crash and rebuild mentality. It hurts the sport. If a team doesn't want to be competitive, then they need not participate IMO.

Have a Restricted Free Agency like the NBA and NHL after say 4 years would be interesting. A player is free to sign with any team but the team who owns that player can match the contract or let him walk and receive compensation in the form of draft picks. The higher the contract, the more a team has to give up in compensation.

How do we downvote posts?

Suggesting Santana for Bichette is ludicrous. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

30/100 guys under control a while aren't commonly available. But sure, Bichette is overkill probably. But who goes for him then?

I am not very high on Bichette and I think my bias got the best of my with that post. But they would want something. And no Pillar is not who they want. They may want an Alford. I would rather give up Bichette than Alford.

Feel free to post "I am a dick" and I will write you down as a downvote, too. :)

Santana is such a butcher in the outfield and it will only get worse.

Brett Philips is the guy to target IMO.

Brett Philips; that 45 potential and 0.0 WAR prediction has my heart aflutter.

Okay, so the Brewers - who already have waaaaay too many OFs - trade an OF for an MLB-ready OF? No. The entire reason they are moving Domingo is because they have a logjam at OF. They are said to be seeking an SP, which makes all the sense in the world. Trading for Alford makes none of the sense. Sorry.

No, I am just throwing things out there.

I think they would want pitching. Like everyone.

But they may want the best prospect available. Like everyone, too.

Not necessarily to play now, but for later or to flip. Sometimes teams get the best players to flip them for another need.

They don't need OF'ers they're stacked in them, that's why he's OTB, plus Santana is terrible defensively, and his batted ball profile is not sustainable. Last year just might be an outlier, and no, suggesting Bichette really is ludicrous, we're not a fit.

Or a 2nd baseman... and we have neither available. :P

I think you're serious if your all caps are any indication. So, are you saying you wouldn't trade for him? Are you saying you don't think he makes our outfield better? Are you saying your keyboard is broken?

Bichette would not have gotten either Yelich or Ozuna, btw.

Effect... I said Good Day!

They’re gonna leverage Domingo Santana for a starter. Not a prospect like Bo Bichette who might not even be able to help them this season. You generally trade for the best available prospect when you’re rebuilding, not competing and have other holes to fill in order to do so. The Brewers fall into the latter category.

Also, if you’re trading a Bichette, don’t you think you’d want to do better than a Domingo Santana? That’s selling Bichettes value short. He’s one of the Top 20 prospects in all of baseball.

Jays win arbitration case over Osuna; he'll get 5.3M instead of the 5.8M he asked for.

That only leaves Stroman's salary to be determined....and then the pre-arb guys I guess.

Anyone got an up to date total of payroll as it stands?

133.7M assuming Stroman gets 7.2M

Still lots of money for a half decent SP now that the OF seems set and the IF pretty much as well

The $133.7M doesn't include Stroman's arb, and we can now add Osuna's $5.2M to that total.

I think Lance Lynn would be a great pickup. This throws (in theory) Biagini to the 'pen where he has excelled. It's a 2-for-1.

I am okay with Maile, or maybe Reese, as the backup catcher.

Probably. I am not high on him so I am always looking to unload him for good, MLB-ready talent that is under control for years. I'd rather part with Bichette than Pearson or Alford.

Yeah, I suspect we'll probably end up clearing Pearce's salary before the season starts, which would help a tiny bit at least.
