What the hell did Votto expect?

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Joey Votto nixed any trades when he still had value as an asset, now he's stuck there. Boo hoo.

Someone could still likely get some value out of that contract if he stays healthy. I think I'd happily take him over Morales, and worry about the back half when the time came. I wouldn't give up Vladdy or Bo to get him though.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 So much for the "votto would love to finish his career at home" crowd. This is amazing.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Hahahahahaha wow, I just became an even bigger Votto fan. I'd like to see him as a Jay because he's good, though, not because he's Canadian. This stupid culture that we've developed where we blow our collective loads every time a Canadian does something in baseball is embarrassing.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 This just hurts man Why should he care? It's not like he had any control over where he was born. Why should he have such an allegiance to Canada, or more accurately, why does he need to have a burning passion for playing in Toronto? I don't blame him for going off. He's probably tired of Canadians constantly badgering him about it.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Votto is just the best The butthurt in the comments on the article are just...*mwah* I can't wait for him to get inducted to the Canadian Baseball HOF and not bother showing up. That will be amazing.

metafour Verified Member Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 Votto is just the best He'll go down as the idiot that no one remembers because he forgot to use his brain and ended up locking himself up on one of the worst teams in baseball for the entirety of his career; what a genius. He may not care about Canada or Canadian baseball, but he sure seems to embody sack-less Canadian pacifism with his seemingly complete lack of drive for actually competing. Name any other superstar player in any sport who seemingly spent 10+ years being content playing for a cellar dweller, honestly. Votto comes off like a complete beta.

This stupid culture that we've developed where we blow our collective loads every time a Canadian does something in baseball is embarrassing. I'm not really for over the top nationalism either. But I do also like when people take pride in where they come from. This is the same guy who also dressed up as Mountie for an interview with MLB Network. I would love if the Jays got rid of all the cringe maple leafs and just went back to calling us the Toronto Blue Jays and not Canada's team. But I also want to see Canada compete well internationally in Baseball events.
