Wow--the Angels are a circus of an org. to be giving Ohtani DH duties when he didn't exactly show anything at the plate this spring. Expect an 0-4 day..

 

ah, ST is kinda meaningless SSS

 

But if Ohtani was not an elite pitcher he'd be getting hitting experience at AA probably

lmao ok, so you're just never gonna let him hit based on some spring games? Steamer projects a 116 wRC+ why wouldn't they let him hit?

would be a projection with a high error bar in the case of Ohtani with no prior MiLB or MLB service.... projecting MLB performance from Nippon league cant be too accurate

Historically, strong numbers in the NPB have translated well to the MLB. He's shown he can hit at a high level, he shouldn't be barred from that opportunity in the MLB based on a few at bats

Sure, but I'm not going to pay much attention to projections for guys coming over from JPPL... has to be one of the least accurate projection models

The point was giving him an opportunity to hit should hardly qualify the organization as a "circus"

Plus, his contract may well include a minimum # of PA

Yep--a reason why pitchers should never hit.

 

in the late 1800's the gap between a pitcher and an outfielder hitting would have been small or the pitcher may well have been the best hitter on the team

 

for the pitcher to hit in today's game is ridiculous
