Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 I think the most objective gauge of his value is how much he fetched in an open unrestricted market which ultimately wasn't that much. We all wanted to get excited and imagine that the Jays got some big steal but that seems kind of foolish in hindsight. It's probably fair to expect that it's about as likely that he's worth less than what the Jays paid for him that it is that he's worth more especially when you consider that the Jays were more desperate for talent in the high minors than other teams were. Yet, you speculate, I agree though.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 So, the takeaway here is that Kevin Smith is the next Ryan Goins. Can Kevin Smith stick?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 What? His best tools were all in his bat coming out of HS (power, bat speed). He was a big boy (ballooned up to like 220 pounds at one point) so the assumption was that he would eventually grow out of SS as his defensive actions were always behind his bat anyway. Ironic since he's now a good defender and an awful hitter.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 It's posted on the previous page. Ah... I see... well this is awkward.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Bo (Myrtle Beach): From an offensive profile how does Bo Bichette stack up to other middle infield talents like Tatis, Rodgers, Adames, Torres, Hiura, Lewis, Gordon, etc. Are we talking about an elite bat and just quibbling/speculating over the future position on the diamond? Ben Badler: I'd take Bichette's hit and power combo over any of those players. Gleyber and Willy Adames have less risk because they're basically MLB ready right now and some of the other players have louder tools outside the batter's box, but Bichette's offensive ability is top notch. -- I fapped.

I know he's the high man on Bo, but reading all of this makes me happy we haven't shipped him out for Yellich.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Waltharius (Japan): How does Guerrero's defense (or lack thereof) as indicated in the tool grade affect where he stands among other prospects like Acuna, Jimenez, Torres, Robles, and Tatis? Ben Badler: Those of you have been reading me for a while know how much I love well-rounded players who add value at the plate, with their defense and especially at a premium position. The fact that I still think Vladdy Jr is the best prospect of that group should tell you how much I love his bat. -- Wo, Badler likes Vladdy over Acuna.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 I think the most objective gauge of his value is how much he fetched in an open unrestricted market which ultimately wasn't that much. It's probably fair to expect that it's about as likely that he's worth less than what the Jays paid for him that it is that he's worth more especially when you consider that the Jays were more desperate for talent in the high minors than other teams were. They didn't pay much for him, IMO. You're reacting too early I think... Scott (Toronto): Gurriel's performance in the minors and the AFL falls well short of that of a number of other Jays prospects ranked lower than him. He's now 24. Why was he ranked this high on your list, and what is his best-case scenario going forward? Ben Badler: We use performance data to help us gauge a player's true talent level right now and project that talent level going forward. In Gurriel's case, though, I don't think it's indicative of his true talent level given the context of his last year (or two, really). He spent basically all of 2016 away from competitive baseball. Then this year, he missed essentially two and a half months to start the season due to injury. With Cuban players in particular, I think that first year is a tough transition—we saw it with Yoan Moncada when he struggled early on, and even with Yuli when people were questioning the early returns on him. I think all of that context is important to keep in mind with Lourdes. I can understand why his ranking might look out of place given his numbers in 2017, but having seen Gurriel play a lot, I don't think his 2017 performance is an accurate reflection of his talent or his potential.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 BP list comes out 01/02. I'll post that s*** in here too.
Todd Verified Member Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) After three months of research I have found that alot of the top teams and the lower teams have at least 100 top prospects or real good players in they system. Teams like New York Yankees, LA Dodgers, Boston red sox, Chicago white sox, San Deigo, Tampa Bay, Houston. As for the blue jays they have a solid 80 good prospects or players. So this year I did not do 120. So this year I did 80 So here go's Vlad Guerrero Bo Bichette Nate Pearson Dan Jansen Richard Urena Ryan Borucki Sean Reid Foley Logan Warmoth Riley Adams Edward Olivares TJ Zeuch Lourdes Gurriel Connor Greene Max Pentecost Anthony Alford Rowdy Tellez Reese Mcguire Justin Maese Tom Pannone Hagen Danner Patrick Murphy Zach Jackson Jon Harris Kevin Smith Bradley Jones Yennsy Diaz Joshua Palacios Ryan Noda Francisco Rios Miguel Hiraldo Angel Perdomo Samad Taylor Brandon Grudzielanek Chavez Young David Jacobs Randy Pondler Ty Tice Ryan Gold Cavan Biggio Danilo Manzueto Dominic Abbadessa Matthew Gunter Maverik Buffo Adam Cuevas Jose Theran Sterling Guzman Maximo Castillo Jordan Barrett Yorman Rodriguez Connor Law MC Gregory Contreras Yeltsin Gudino Luis De Los Santos Juan Meza Kelyn Jose Roither Hernandez Nathanael Perez Jonathan Cheshire Justin Watts Travis Hosterman Kacy Clemens Kevin Vicuna Yhordegny Kelly Turner Larkins DJ Neal Graham Spraker Jose Espada Zach Logue Colton Laws Javier Hernandez Matt Shannon Donnie Sellers Marcus Reyes Joel Espinal Josh Winckowski Davis Schneider Patrick Morris Joseph Reyes So I hope you enjoy this years. Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 holy s***, todd has Alford way up to #15 now.... there's hope yet any news on his ankle
Todd Verified Member Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 I hoping Anthony Alford can stay away from injuries this year and get say 400 or 500 abs with one team. As of right now he reminds me to much of Devon Travis and Dalton Pompey. And A lot of people would like to know what this guy is. A home run hitter, A batting average guy, A guy who can steal bases. Nobody knows for sure. Cause he can never stay away from injuires. And playing in the fall league proves nothing. Because years ago the jays had a catcher who ripped apart the league and now is no where to to found.

"MacKenzie Gore is a fierce competitor. The combination of his elite athleticism and tremendous work ethic has made him one of the best players in the nation," Whiteville head coach Brett Harwood told Gatorade.
