PREVIEW...

By Keegan Matheson / MLB.com

Toronto will send Marcus Stroman to the mound on Wednesday night to face Baltimore's Wade Miley in their second of three games at Rogers Centre.

Stroman has been the Blue Jays' most consistent starter this season, as their rotation has dealt with a number of injuries. The right-hander enters with a 3.69 ERA over his first 15 starts, but is coming off a rare difficult outing against the Rangers.

He lasted just four innings on June 22, allowing seven runs on seven hits that included three home runs. Stroman also allowed three home runs, all of the solo variety, is his June 17 start against the White Sox. Otherwise, his strikeout and walk numbers have been right in line with his career averages and Stroman continues to be one of the league's best when it comes to forcing ground balls.

Miley comes into Wednesday's start with a 4.48 ERA and has walked five batters per nine innings, which is double his rate from 2016.

The left-hander was lifted from two starts in the third inning earlier this month, but has been able to work a bit deeper into games of late, with starts of five and 5 2/3 innings his last two trips to the mound. In his two starts against the Blue Jays this season, Miley has allowed three earned runs over 13 innings with 11 strikeouts and just one walk.

• Baltimore third baseman Manny Machado has started the season slower than expected with his lowest career batting average, but luck hasn't been on his side through the first three months of 2017.

Entering this series in Toronto, Machado was tied for fourth in Major League Baseball with 25 outs on balls in play that, based on Statcast calculations, had an expected batting average of .500 or higher. Only DJ LeMahieu, Jose Abreu, and Nicholas Castellanos have recorded more.

• Miley's four-seam fastball and two-seamer have yielded very different results this season. His two-seamer, which he throws as his primary pitch, has kept opposing hitters to a manageable .236 batting average and .330 slugging percentage. The four-seam, however, has been hit to the tune of a .356 average and .644 slugging percentage, including six home runs.

• Over his last two starts, Stroman allowed seven barrels -- batted balls with an ideal combination of exit velocity and launch angle -- to account for 20 percent of all the balls put in play against him. He had given up just six barrels (4.8 percent of balls in play) over his previous seven outings.

Yeah definitely a must win and no excuse not to score some runs since they are facing a lefty they are very familiar with and who has " pitched to a 7.81 mark over his past six starts". Tomorrow looks pretty good too with Jimenez and his 7.26 ERA versus Happ.

Tulo must lead the league in gidps

6 times, he's been coming out of it lately, north of .900 OPS the last week, hopefully he keeps it going.

Tulo must lead the league in gidps

Tulo has grounded into double plays at a rate of 3.9% of total ABs. This is comparable to Morales (4.4%) and Bautista (4.0%).

Unfortunately the Jays are continuing their habit of being one of the teams that lead MLB in GDPs, currently with the most this season (81) followed by Boston (77) with Atlanta and Houston tied at 75. I guess it goes with the territory of having a lot of guys that hit the ball hard and are not fleet of foot.

Easy way to keep a low pitch count against the Jays:

a) Intentionally walk the lead-off batter

B) Induce a double play

And Bautista and Tulo will oblige.
