Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I'm trying to find a recent article I was reading that mentioned Ross Atkins meeting with Nick Allen at his house. I wonder if they were looking at him for an underslot, I haven't seen any mocks that have him going in the first round. You read it here... also Allen will be going 1st/2nd round, no doubt, most mocks have him going that high. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/opportunities-abound-blue-jays-second-draft-shapiro/
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 No, MLB Network, or online MLB.com. Even if SN was I would never listen. Could you imagine Zaun or Barker providing analysis on the picks. Be 10X worse than Reynolds.

I don't think you're going to get him at a discount.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 How is Gregg Zaun a real life human being?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Something like this http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cuxub0AUsAA_rKp.jpg Sometimes I think the board is too harsh on Zaun but then someone will post this and I'm reminded that no actually we aren't.

Barker: "He's a big country boy with lots of power. A real ball player. " Zaun: "He seems like he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He'll be lucky if he even gets to the bigs at 5'11. I would call for a "mistake" at his head to smarten him up."
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I like Carlson and White would prefer if we avoided Warmoth like the plague.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 White and Carlson is my best case scenario, so if it goes that way, I'd be extremely stoked. I really don't like Sheets, so I'm hoping that's a misfire on Mayo's part. Last night on the special, they were saying White could play a passable CF, but he's so good at 1B, he'd be a perennial Gold Glove winner and teams are now looking for that type of defense at 1B... I'm sold, props to KK for picking that up a while back about teams looking at 1B analytics.

I like the idea of an athletic first baseman though. I think that's the way forward. Position versatility is becoming really important as well.

I can't say i know someone that has said they liked listening to Zaun. Everyone i know hates the man and a lot of my friends out here are very casual.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 My hope for top 2 picks is 2 of these: Alex Faedo (won't happen) Keaton Hiura Jake Burger Evan White Nate Pearson Logan Warmoth Gavin Sheets Sam Carlson Tanner Houck You could probably add Burger to the (wont happen) category. Hiura is a name im surprised isnt mentioned more. Limited to DH this year due to injury dropped his draft stock but he could be a steal with a late first round pick. Hiura has been ripping the ball to the tune of a .442 average, and he's never hit below .330 in college. Top 3 for me are probably Carlson Hiura White
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 (edited) I'm expecting a College player that isn't one of the obvious choices to be drafted by the Jays with their first pick. Edited June 12, 2017 by Krylian

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 Baseball America latest mock. Lots of movement, new #1 pick, and they have Tampa and Oakland taking Thompson and Hiura 4th and 6th overall. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2017-mlb-mock-draft-4-5/#1upSMBEI5sFSk1pK.97 Warmoth and Sheets to the Jays. Gag.

metafour Verified Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Most of their draft is solely based on some of their guesses it appears at the beginning of the draft. They also note it's pretty much total chaos right now. Sheets at 28 is dependent on them deciding to go under-slot at that pick, which obviously hasn't been determined. BA may be hearing us "linked" to Sheets a lot, but that doesn't mean that they won't go in an entirely different direction with that pick. As Piliere has noted, we are also heavily connected to HS kids with that pick, so you're looking at two polar opposites (money saving college player vs. HS player who may even be over slot).
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Hiura isn't dropping to us, I'd be really surprised, he's a top 10 talent. Probably not, but the whole injury thing has him sliding a bit. He likely needs Tommy John to fix his arm and so its reasonable to expect him to drop.

No, his stock is back up again as a possible under-slot option for teams picking as high as the A's at 6th overall. The last-minute consensus is that he's likely gone within the first 15 or so picks, and even if he falls past that there are several teams in front of us (Mets, Giants) who have been linked to college bats as well who would probably pop him.
