Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Lol @ building around an 18 year old in A ball. Too optimistic? In any event, the general idea is fill the farm with prospects.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I never understood the "build around a player" theory anyway. Makes sense in other sports like Basketball or football where the play is free flowing and you can take advantage of a player's strengths like putting 3 point shooters around Lebron. But in baseball a player hits against a pitcher. The goal of every pitcher is the same to get the player out. You can build your team to maximize the benefits of your ballpark but building around a player doesn't make sense.

So let's rephrase.... unload vets for prospects with the same approximate timeline as Vlad et al with the goal of having several cost controlled impact players on the Jays at the same time
baubau Verified Member Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Very pronounced leg kick. Bo has changed his swing. I am not sure if it is any better from a scouting point of view, but he has a toe tap + twist now. NJH broke it down well here: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/7341-MiLB-Recap-April-7th-2016?p=1136306&viewfull=1#post1136306 Actually, the most recent video from Emily Waldon he does both. lol Walk - toe tap + twist: Double - leg kick:

He does the leg kick until he's at 2 strikes, then changes to the tap/twist. I think.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Regardless - his leg kick isn't overly pronounced at all. He has a bit of an odd load up, but my untrained eye doesn't see an issue with it as long as he gets loaded on time.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Regardless - his leg kick isn't overly pronounced at all. He has a bit of an odd load up, but my untrained eye doesn't see an issue with it as long as he gets loaded on time. I think that's the main criticism of his swing though. That his hands start forward with his lead shoulder pointed at the pitcher, then as he goes into the leg kick, the hands come pretty far back, the lead shoulder closes off, then everything flies forward and open again. Lots of hand movement throughout the whole process but his timing/bat speed/hand eye get the bat where it needs to be anyways. The concern is that noisy process won't work against higher level pitching. And really, there's no way to know until he gets there. But you're right in that it hasn't failed so far, so he's got no reason to make changes.
