Blue Jays vs. Red Sox - 12:37 PM April 20 (3/3) - Everything is still bad

Tjose guys are DFA candidates though, nobody would trade anything for them

Wait, you thought that I thought that they had trade value? lol

When I said "shipped out" for other slop I mean ship them on a one-way rocket ship to Mars. In return the slop that is Maile, Kelly, etc. can take their place. Of course they don't have trade value although Shatkins apparently think Goins does.

I can't believe they continue to throw Grilli to the Wolves. Hes 40 years old they should really chill out on his work load. I don't even think he should throw back to back days. Especially on a quick turnaround. My goodness gracious. He litterally emptied the tank last night. No suprise he was awful today.

Especially after 2 guys got on base, they should have removed him and put in Barnes. It's frustrating though, when he gets Pedroia for the 2nd out then couldn't close the deal. But yeah he probably had just run out of gas. Pitiful BP usage by Gibbons.

He loves the Jays though so if no other MLB team signed him, my bet is he'd choose to play in Buffalo. Or back in the Dominican.

Can we get a ban?

Of all the possibilities, there is less than 0 chance Jose signs a minor league deal to play in Buffalo in 2018

Might be unlikely, but I wouldn't say it's less than zero chance. If he really loves the game...

It's a good thing Spanky has been given a timeout for the past 48 hours so that Gary can stick around!

When rosters expand in September we should call-up the entire Lansing Lugnuts starting 9 and let them play out the season. Just go ahead and announce it now as well so we have something to look forward to.

There is no way Jose is just pressing; something is wrong with him. He looks thin, sooooooooo old, etc. I don't even want to bitch at this point. Gibbons, however, needs the boot: he may not hit but his decision-making is suspect. Grilli did not had it, Salty is a horrible framer, we needed a strikeout or at least a non-walk! Roll the dice with someone else at that point.

I think the PED theory makes lots of sense.

How about this you guys? He's old and he's in a slump. Simple as that.

But there is a difference between being in a slump that you know you will eventually break out of and having that sinking feeling that you just don't have it anymore. I believe he is mentally shot and whether he can regain his composure is in doubt.

Just imagine if this was his first year of that 5/150 contract.

Truthfully you've just used a bunch of words to say nothing.

He's old and maybe he can't play well anymore or he's in a slump. Or maybe it's a bit of both. But I don't think he has some mental issues that will prevent him from playing well ever again. Even if he did you wouldn't be able to tell.

yes the BEST thing Atkins/Shapiro ever did so far was not signing JB to a long-term contract. Possibly the worst thing they did so far was signing him to a 1 year contract. They should have stuck by their guns and kept the page turned on the Bautista era as they had intended when the season ended

It is clear when he goes up to the plate and is taking half-hearted cuts that the confidence is lacking. He let a changeup that was up in the zone go right by him on his 4th plate appearance with a 1-0 count. A confident player would have made Sale pay for that mistaken location. You may be right that he can still get going, but this thing is snow-balling big time. He is also feeling not just pressure for his own performance, but the entire franchise is at a crisis point, for which he knows he should be the guy to step up and can't.

I don't really care to get in to a dragged out debate about confidence and how it affects a player's performance. It's not really measurable. That's my point.

I do see what you're saying and I don't doubt that his confidence is playing a factor in his slump, I just don't know how to evaluate to what degree his confidence will ultimately end his career.

Fair enough. I hope the guy gets it going and has a decent year. But I really think he should consider retiring after this season.

His confidence is lacking because he had the ability to control the at-bat previously. When pitchers made mistakes, he crushed them, which meant that he could be much more selective as pitchers were naturally afraid to challenge him. Now that his bat-speed is gone it is clear that pitchers aren't afraid anymore, which means that they are attacking him. He's now playing from behind and doesn't know how to react.

Pearce could also be facing age-related decline and simply doesn't have it anymore either. You never know when father time is going to hit. Seems like half the team might have hit the wall due to age. We won't know for certain for a while though. It's mid April and 15 games in.
