Not sure if it's allowed here but there are MLBStreams on Reddit.

there are a few spots to get them and reddit is one. I wish there were still full coverage torrents. A couple years ago you could download every game next day, but most sports sites got threatened out of existence. There are still a few sites that will post a game or two but that means mostly NY and Boston games.

Hah!

Man this is exactly what I was talking about, I swear I always see the same posts about someone from MLB.tv support telling them it's gonna be blacked out!

Posted
That same chick who posted about the blackout claims she was contacted by some in the blue jays organization and by MLB.tv to confirm there will be no blackouts.

I really hope this is true

Yeah I honestly think you're spending too much. Like I said we're paying 99/mo for internet and TV with the NHL package included.

We just had a Rogers rep show up at our house and offer this deal to us. 500 mb/s is some of the fastest internet you're ever gonna find right now, and its unlimited which is awesome never having to worry about overage charges.

We get just about every channel too with an HD PVR. You get to choose for the most part which channels you want in certain packages and the all the TSN and sportsnet channels are easy to get. Then each additional receiver is only $5/month so we got 2 more of those as well. And we're just students, but splitting it 3 ways is really cheap for us.

I would just call and ask about this deal because Bell came around and tried to beat Rogers price once they found out what we had and what we paid. Our Rogers rep also said if you call and threaten to cancel or switch to bell saying you've got a deal like the one I just mentioned they match it every time. They never want to lose your business.

We dont have home phone or anything like that, but nobody really uses that anymore.

If you want netflix too that only like another 10 bucks like you mentioned. You really shouldn't have to pay more than 120/mo. with just about everything you'd ever want included. Just give them a call and tell them you're paying too much.

500 mbs ? You have fiber optical cable ??

Think of IPTV like this: you're streaming channels online from a dude who has cable essentially. So it is channels it's not like searching links for events. For example I can get the SN channels, TSN channels, NBCSN, FOX Sports, MLB Network, BeIN Sports, NFL Network, Sky, and that's just some sports channels off the top of my head. Lots of local channels like CP24, CBC, CTV, City, movie channels like Sky Movies, Encore, HBO, and a bunch of other channels etc. Basically like cable but it doesn't guarantee constant uptime/smoothness, but this is comparable to a $80/month package + channels that you can't even get in Canada so worth it to me.

Also in terms of it being a wash, it depends on how you look at it. IMO I'm getting much more content than you (like I mentioned it's like having the top of the line cable package + international channels), plus my internet package is much above average for internet speeds (Bell's Fiber-To-The-Home service is the best in Canada bar none) and I have unlimited usage so I don't worry about going over.

HOWEVER

I get that there is a degree of uncertainty with IPTV. I also know that there is a lot of people who don't have time and just want a solution that "just works" - and that's exactly why cable will always be around. If the extra ~$70 is negligible to you then your setup is definitely the best way to go about it. It's more of a "what rocks your boat" thing!

Appreciate the info/feedback. I've always been curious about what premium I pay to watch TV the way I always have. Sounds like it's $25-$40 - which I can justify (mainly because I could figure out how this all works, but teaching the wife would be hell on earth. The kids would be fine I suspect).

But what does that $99 turn into after the first few months. Usually that introductory price is only for limited time.

It doesn't change, its a 2 year fixed rate. The number can only change/increase after the 2 years is up. No cancellation fee either.

202,000 people cancelled their cable service in Canada in the past year. Since then the prices have come down immensely

Its actually technically a GB/s but you can only get those speeds if you are hard wired in. Our wireless speeds usually come in at 420-450 mb/s

Blacking out a Country, never makes sense? If they were to blackout the GTA I'd understand.

Yeah it does because SN is broadcasted across the nation. The whole point of the blackout isn't to get more fans in the stadium but to force people to pay for Roger's Television packages and make more $.

I support this, not everyone here on the board but a lot of people in this day and age want entertainment for free or next to nothing, sorry not going to happen when companies dump so much money into producing sports/shows. Good for Rogers for sticking to their guns here.

This is incoherent. MLB.TV is $155, not free. And Jays games aren't actually going to be blacked out on it.

Lol people don't realize the whole point of a business is to maximize profit. Rogers was leaving lots of $ on the table by allowing this.

TBH get a VPN and you can still use MLBTV, there are easy ways around it..

Yeah I know that but people always said Sportsnet NOW was too much money vs MLB.TV but Rogers has their own product and shouldn't stand by the side and not do anything about it. I say this all the time too, people love Netflix and think it's the second coming of Jesus, I get it, Netflix is awesome I have it too but people are really silly to think $10/month Netflix is here to stay. Once all those streaming rights expire for shows they never created they will drop so much content and have to produce their own shows which will be awesome because House of Cards and Narcos are amazing but that $10/month fee will be $25 - $30 in a few years time and the general cheapo public will be up in arms.

Seeing as Rogers is in the business of maximizing profit, I'm assuming they've determined that allowing games to be streamed on MLB.tv is best for business. A lot of people who engage with the product on MLB.TV would not pay to do so if the games were blacked out. They'd watch other teams on MLB.tv, find illegal streams, or login in to Sportsnet now using someone else's info. There probably just isn't that many people who a) already don't have cable, and B) would buy cable just to watch the Jays. Probably there's more money in growing their brand across the country by not blacking games out.

But how would Rogers make money by splitting profits from MLB.TV and no ad revenue during commercials besides on field ads would kick them some money back? I hope MLB never puts ads on jerseys in the future, I might vomit.

The internet has changed everything. 15-20 years ago if you wanted to see live sport, it was pay a lot of money for cable, pay even more to go to the games, or nothing.

Very few cable companies offer packages where you can pick and choose what you want - nearly all come with standard s*** that you have to take in order to get the bit you want. To thrive, they need to offer a complete customizable package, that a lot more people would be willing to pay for. TV in general is a declining industry because the majority people want to watch things on demand, and without adverts.

Beeston was the one who fought for the no blackouts apparently and we all know how much money he left on the table during his tenure so I wouldn't say Rogers thought it was best that people used MLB.TV to grow their brand.

Last year was my first full season having MLB.TV. Got it on my ipad and I google chromecasted it onto my big screen TV and it worked flawlessly. Satisfied customer here (as long as the no Jays blackouts continue.). How can a big baseball fan not love being able to watch any game every day/night for seven straight months for $113 U.S. or $150 Cdn? (I watched over 400 games last season.)

I didn't realize SN Now was free to anyone with a valid cable/satellite subscription. It's working much better than MLBTV for my super slow internet connection.

It only works in Canada though, so if you travel and want to watch it outside of Canada it won't work, only downside I find.
