Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 It's a call umpires almost never make, I don't even remember the last time that happened in a Jays game. I suppose everyone has their own moral compass, I personally would take one for the team if the ball was thrown at me but there's no way in hell I'd lean into a pitch. Work a count for a walk, get a f***ing hit, bunt, do whatever you can but leaning in is bush league, especially considering the scoreline. And is a no hitter really that much less embarrassing than a perfect game? You'll just have to take my word for it because I don't remember the specifics, but a Blue Jays player was not awarded first base after being hit in the 2016 season. I want to say it was Donaldson, but I'm not certain.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 He barely leaned in to that. Jesus, talk about an overreaction. I thought he actually leaned in over the plate. That ball was inside and he would have had to bail out for that to miss him lol. So he should have bailed out to keep the perfect game alive lol. I have seen way worse. He wasn't even hanging over the plate.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Nothing wrong with that. Players get paid to get on base. The rule states that you are supposed to make an effort to get out of the ball not lean into it. It's a shame the ump didn't call it by the book. He did not deserve to get on base that way. Douche move to say the least.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 I wonder if he would have stuck his elbow into the pitch if he wasn't wearing that giant pad.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Did any of you guys even watch the game? You'd probably feel different about it if you were watching it live.

Who gives a rats ass if it pisses of the opponent. Aren't you suppose to try to get on base? If i was a Washington player i would not be pleased. If i am a Pittsburgh player i dont want a perfect game hung on me.
