AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 (edited) Chris Correa, the Cardinals executive who hacked into the Astros database, will be placed on the permanently ineligible list. Of the people placed on the ineligible list, everyone is dead, except for Jennry Mejia and Pete Rose. Others that were formerly placed on the list include 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson, George Steinbrenner, Ferguson Jenkins and Marge Schott. Edited January 30, 2017 by NorthOf49
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Cardinals surrender $2M and their top 2 picks. The Cardinals Way!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 So I have a question... did the Cardinals know in advance that they were going to lose their top two picks? And if so, wouldn't that give them a lot of incentive to sign a QO free agent like Dexter Fowler? Seems kinda scummy that they lose their top 2 picks AFTER already surrendering their 1st round pick for a free agent.

I suspect that if they still had their first round pick, they would have only lost one pick. Also: Who edited my title? Do you guys not understand the concept of clickbait?

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 lol... what was it prior? Breaking: Correa recieves lifetime ban from baseball. Prison time.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Cardinals punishment feels light. They should've given up future 1st rounders, or their past 1st rounders ever since the hacking scandal started.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Haha good job North. I like this title better.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Ferguson Jenkins isn't dead...

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I never knew Ferguson Jenkins was banned. Wikipedia suggests it's because he was caught with cocaine, hash and weed at the border. I don't quite get this one.....nor do I get how he could be elected to the HOF while still on the banned list. Those smarter than me....go!

Those smarter than me....go! He was reinstated by an arbiter. Ferguson Jenkins of the Texas Rangers, the first Black Canadian to be banned, was banned in 1980 after a customs search in Toronto, Ontario, found 3 grams (0.11 oz) of cocaine, 2.2 grams (0.078 oz) of hashish, and 1.75 grams (0.062 oz) of marijuana on his person. (Jenkins missed the rest of the 1980 season, but was reinstated by an independent arbiter, and retired following the 1983 season. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 He was reinstated by the next commissioner. Someone update Wikipedia please. Did they ban the entire 1984 Expos too?

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 How do you give up past 1st rounders? I dunno, force them to give up the players if they are still in the organization. Like if the Jays were caught hacking after the end of the 2015 draft, we'd have to give up the 2016 guys - Zeuch, Bichette, e.t.c.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 How is this fair, Cardinals should lose their no1 next year.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 How is this fair, Cardinals should lose their no1 next year. They did already.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 84? I edited my post above. I'm referring to the reality that essentially the entire 1984 Expos team was high on cocaine all season long (note - I didn't actually look up what year it was, but it was discussed with the whole Tim Raines HOF discussion).
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 They should have made it their first pick in the 2017 draft and a 1st round in the 2018 draft...not actually giving up a top 50 pick is a bit of a joke.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I was listening to the fan 590, and they said the forfeited picks and fine were being given to the Astros as compensation. Is this true? If so, thats f***ing ridiculous.
UWHabs Verified Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Nobody really knows how much it hurt the Astros, and how much the Cards benefited. And since MLB can only fine a team up to 2M, seems like they were always planning on 2M+top-2 picks. The only weird part is that since they signed Fowler, that doesn't factor in. Should have been their first pick this year and their first pick next year to be more fair.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 They did already. Good good then my work is done
