P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Just the Pirates IIRC. He owns the Mavs because he lives in Dallas but he went to school in Pittsburgh, and developed a fandom for that city's teams. I'm sure he'd jump at the opportunity to own the Steelers too. Pretty sure he also tried to buy the Penguins. Cuban sounds like a pretty smart guy.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Cuban sounds like a pretty smart guy. Hahaha... why do you root for their teams, I meant to ask you this before? As a Buc fan, I'd love it if Cuban bought the Pirates.

As a Buc fan, I'd love it if Cuban bought the Pirates. It started with the Pens. I was six and they were in the finals against Chicago. Well, I didn't yet have a favourite team at that point, so I just kind of chose the Penguins, since they were already good, I guess lol. I loved watching Lemieux - such an exciting player. Anyway, the rest is pretty much history. When I started paying attention to the NFL a few years later, I remember struggling to pick a team to cheer for. I remember ultimately deciding on the Steelers because of my pre-existing allegiance to the Penguins, though. Like with the Pens, I was young enough at the time that it just kind of stuck my whole life.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Sources: A’s are in agreement on a trade to acquire Stephen Piscotty. Two minors leaguers go to cards in deal.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I love that the offseason is finally getting interesting! Stanton, Ohtani and the Marlins have opened the floodgates. Nats trying to put together the best rotation in the majors: The reliever market continues to be inflated:
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Well played, by both clubs.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 These RP contracts are insane... stay in house Jays.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 It’s weird to me that the AAV for non-elite relievers is up to $7-9M.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 It’s weird to me that the AAV for non-elite relievers is up to $7-9M. Which is a reason why this team needs to clean house and rebuild. They need to rebuild the core so its young, talented, and controllable. Dealing prospects for Ozuna, Yelich, etc is not the right move. This team needs young t-shirt at all positions. It's too expensive to add via free agency. At this rate, when a $200M payroll isn't going to be anything extraordinary anymore.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Cardinals 'keep pushing for' Josh Donaldson http://www.rotoworld.com/images/headshots/MLB/5409.jpg According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cardinals "keeping pushing for" Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson. Rosenthal adds, however, that the Blue Jays "remain disinclined to move Donaldson" because they want to compete in 2018. The asking price is high and there is no indication that a deal is close. St. Louis has its toe in the water on a bunch of different potential upgrades and it sounds like there might be a better match with the Rays. Evan Longoria, Alex Colome, and Chris Archer are the names the Cardinals have discussed with Tampa Ba

At least New York has upside guys like Florial and Sheffield.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Florial is toolsy but the K rate is concerning. His ceiling is probably like Carlos Gomez.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Yankees lose 6 prospects, including 4 in the major league draft. Not sure why the Marlins didn't just pick everyone they could, trade all their real players, run out a young lineup, lose 150 games, and have a payroll of $10million!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I don't think Sheffield is that interesting. I'd rather have Reyes than either of those two. Is Reyes even that good? His BB/9 has been about 4.5 in every single season and stop he's made and is now coming off a lost season. Low GB%. I mean if we're trading JD to the Cards, he's the guy you want, but I'm not sold. He has a ton of similarities to Matt Moore.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Rodney to the Twins for 4.5 million plus incentives.

Something like Kelly, Flaherty, and O'Neill would be gross.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Burch Smith, there's a name I haven't heard in years. An old North favourite. If you read this, I miss you North.

Something like Kelly, Flaherty, and O'Neill would be gross. Luke Weaver seems significantly more appealing to me than Reyes. A year older, but he throws a lot more strikes, while still posting K/9 ratios >10. The rest of their system is awful though. Flaherty is fine, but I'd hate to build the trade around 2 pitchers. Harry Bader and O'Neill strike out way too much and we don't need another catcher in Carson Kelly. Weaver, Gyorko + Wong for JD?

I'd trade JD straight up for Luke Weaver if an extension couldn't be worked out. I'm sure that wouldn't be on the table though.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Lol wut. Actually? I don't remember the specifics. Maybe it was 4-5 fWAR. It got fixed eventually, but for a few weeks Burch Smith was projected as CY caliber starter.
