King Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Arden Zwelling @ArdenZwelling 1m1 minute ago Blue Jays have signed left-hander Jeff Beliveau to a minor league contract with an invite to big league camp. I like it. Was good with the Rays back in 2014 before shoulder injuries derailed his career and had a good strikeout rate in High A last season
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 low risk walk rate is a problem but the K's are there at least
Ray Verified Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Pete Walker will make Jeff Beliveau great again.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 low risk walk rate is a problem but the K's are there at least High K rates are one thing Grilli, Benoit and Liriano all had in common when the Jays acquired them. It seems like they operate with a fairly straight forward "if you're getting K's, you must be doing something right" criteria for identifying viable buy low candidates.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 There's a decent chance Beliveau pitches a lot of games for Toronto this year.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Beliveau and House. We ain't spending s*** on a major league LH reliever. Probably smart. Yeah I agree. When the Brett Cecil's of the world are getting 32 million and the Mike Dunn's are getting 18 I say we just let it ride with Aaron Loup.

Yea good call there and a lot has to go wrong for high K rate guys to suddenly become unreliable especially when given clean innings. Like ridiculous 30% HR/FB rates or 5+ BB/9.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I will take a Boone Logan Well Mike Dunn just got 18 mil so be prepared to offer around that or more for Boone Logan. That's a hard pass for me.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Jerry Blevins might get more than $20 million. This reliever bubble is insane. Cecil will probably end up being that 4th highest paid reliever this offseason after Chapman, Jansen and Melancon.

It's the mid-tier guys getting 5+M a year that often seem stupid.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Well Mike Dunn just got 18 mil so be prepared to offer around that or more for Boone Logan. That's a hard pass for me. You probably have to pay that to sign him today but the Rockies deal to Dunn isn't necessarily representative of how the market in general values these guys. The Rockies paid a premium for Dunn because no one wants to pitch there. There isn't necessarily a second team desperate enough to go that high. If you wait out market, you have to figure there's a reasonable chance that Logan will sign for less than Dunn. At the very least I'm not ready to write it off completely though when your plan is to wait out the market, you have to have contingencies in place.
