AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 OK, the Padres let him go because he was expected to get over $10 million in arbitration, which makes him a free agent. And he would be a perfect fit for the RC, because he has an awesome GB rate, just like Stroman. Obviously, thoracic outlet syndrome is a big deal, but it would be worth risking some money to see what he's got. And we have the luxury of being able to move Liriano to the bullpen if we need to, so we can guarantee Ross a rotation spot on a contending team, if he's healthy.

I'd be willing to pay more to land him on a 2 year deal or a one year deal with an option. That way, we can be patient with his recovery and have a potential starter under control when Liriano and Estrada are free agents.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 This definitely is an interesting little change to the FA class. Unless his arm is unworkable, the best pitcher in this year's class just appeared on the market overnight.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Sign him to a similar contract Charlie Morton just got, even slightly more. He'd be a perfect pickup and would be insurance for 2018 with Estrada and Liriano as FA's. We've seen Shapiro and Atkins make moves that cover them for the following year if they know they might have holes there, so Ross does make sense. As well, Rubby De La Rosa would be a nice target as well as a spot starter/long reliever.
