fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Lineups are out http://i.imgur.com/eH48o9N.png err why is Upton DHing and Bautista in right?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Why is Upton DHing and Bautista playing RF? I get that Upton will probably only play a few innings, but I'd still rather have him start in the OF even if Saunders is coming in mid-game. Bautista is no better than Saunders defensively (ie they both suck). Sounds funny but might as well have Bautista start with being a DH and if need be forfeit the DH position when you take Upton out, I mean he wants the DH position to be a revolving door anyways right? If we get 2 ABs with Upton that gives us 2-3 more ABs to PH for when the pitchers spot comes back, and we'd be in the BP by then anyways
candymartinez Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Martin needs to be lower, and Carrera is hitting well, don't think it's great to get him on base with Pillar and Barney coming up after. Think I'd rather go this route: 1. Carrera 2. Bautista 3. Donaldson 4. Encarnacion 5. Tulowitzki 6. Upton 7. Martin 8. Pillar 9. Barney

The only thing I can think of is Gibby will likely pinch hit Saunders for Upton later in the game against one of their righties and this keeps Saunders out of the outfield.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I really don't see what the issue would be with Upton potentially playing OF the whole game
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I really don't see what the issue would be with Upton potentially playing OF the whole game Lets say hes in for 2 innings then Saunders is in for 2 innings... Saunders is pretty much Bautista out there and Upton is damn good. f*** this is confusing, but s*** Gibby does weird things like this that pan out so who knows
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Yeah seems like Gibbons will take Upton out the moment a righty is brought in, which is why he went with that alignment, but still he's putting in the weakest defensive alignment out there with Estrada on the mound. Just have to hope no balls are hit to Bautista, I guess.

Would that really be so bad? He matches up well with the starter, he matches up with Miller down the line (god forbid). Is it really the end of the world if he faces a righty at some point given what he provides on the field?
UWHabs Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I really don't see what the issue would be with Upton potentially playing OF the whole game Well you don't really want him to bat against righties, as Saunders is a better hitter. But to me, I think I'd rather have half a game with Upton in the OF and the other half with Saunders, rather than a full game of Bautista. If we got out to a big lead, then Upton could just stay in the field against righties. Gibby's just thinking too much of the "what happens if we start Upton, then hit with Saunders by the 3rd or 4th inning, and then they bring in Miller later and we want to hit with Navarro, then I would be forced to bring in Pompey for defense for him instead of potentially using him as a pinch runner". Honestly, I wouldn't necessarily even count on Merritt lasting that long that I'd be tempted to still start Saunders against the lefty and save Upton to be able to use later off the bench as a pinch hitter/pinch runner/defensive sub.
Jonovision Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Yep we were right wouldn't want to give the home team any type of advantage at home.... The circumstances are the circumstances

Not really. I mean Saunders has been heating up recently, but that chance (IMO) is offset by Upton's fielding ability. Especially if Upton manages to reach base

candymartinez Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 MLB is so dumb. That makes ZERO sense. I'd be really pissed if I was going to the game, it's much better with the roof open.

Yeah, I don't even want to go now but pretty much have to unless I want to lose a bunch of money on the tickets.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I wonder if the team is keeping a Saunders injury under wraps for the sake of his future employment. There's no way that it's worth putting Bautista in the outfield over Upton if Saunders is capable of at least matching Jose's badness as a late game sub. Then again, no reason to hamper the team with a secret injury either. They must really, genuinely think Saunders is a terrible defender (which I wouldn't blame them for).

ComeTogether Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 goins was hitting, Barney hasn't. not sure why they didn't keep goins in as a leftie.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 here is your lame as f*** explanation on the roof status That's kinda funny, I had no idea that somehow both teams playing with the roof open is unfair versus both playing with it closed. Learn something new every day I guess.
