BTS Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 A lot of these teams take over players when they are minors with no college education. Same with the NHL. 18 year olds and 19 year olds that lack maturity. And the team is not responsible? If you get a job just any job you employer has development programs in place. When you are at university you have professors and other role models helping your development. So yes I do think there is something wrong with a system that takes young teens and makes baseball their no.1 priority. As log as they perform other behaviors are overlooked. Shut the f*** up
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 People like Fernandez die too young, yet the Dogg lives on....
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Shut the f*** up Seriously. This isn't the time for a soap box moment. That's temp ban worthy imo. Dogg should be ashamed.
vdartanian Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Absolutely floored hearing this, feel bad for his family, the Marlins and the sport of baseball. A once in a lifetime talent who looked like he had a clear path to baseball royalty. Never Forget!
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Terrible in every way. Incredible talent and story behind him getting to the bigs. So sad. Yahoo fantasy gave me an alert that his status changed from "healthy to day to day". Geez...
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 That's temp ban worthy imo. Agreed and enforced.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Agreed and enforced. I'm not one to jump to the defense of the Dogg, but his comments were temp ban worthy and this comment was perfectly okay? Give me a break. People like Fernandez die too young, yet the Dogg lives on....
vanland Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I can't believe how hard this news hit me. 24. Could have been the best. Pregnant girl. Hug the ones you love, boys. Life is so fragile.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Just got off a flight, now waiting for my connection - check out the board and see this thread. Shocking news.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I was reading a news article on the Toronto Sun when at the bottom of the page a headline read "Marlins Pitcher Fernandez Killed". I looked at it for a few minutes in disbelief thinking and hoping that it was a mistake. I can't even believe this RIP Jose
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Another young life lost RIP
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Don't really know what to say. Haven't felt this stunned and saddened by an active pro sports player's death since Sean Taylor way back. Seeing the Redskins line up with 10 men on the field on their first defensive play since his death gets me everytime. Rest in Peace, Jose. You were one of the brightest personalities and most electrifying talents we had seen from a pitcher in a while. The dude was just electric and my favorite young pitcher in the game. Words fail me to describe how tragic this is.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I'm sorry... I don't see the difference in this/Taveras or Adenhart's tragic deaths. I feel the same as I did when their stories broke. It's just awful news, they were all just kids. How about the fact that Taveras was piss drunk and also murdered his girlfriend in the process? No difference? This is a much bigger tragedy also because Fernandez was one of the faces of change in the game, fiery, passionate and really f***ing good.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 If you read my other posts you can see I don't care about his talent... It's different hearing about a person you barely know about vs. A guy who seems like a genuine good kid happy with life If someone like Jose Fernandez talent wise but a POS person I'd hardly care I care about his talent. The whole reason I give a s*** that he died in the first place is because he played a sport I like and was good at it.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I scared the s*** out of my wife when I screamed out WHAT!! Followed by the jaw hanging for minutes. RIP!

Well to be fair if Fernandez was driving the boat drunk then he would be responsible for the other 2 killed as well.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 s***** news. I got to see him pitch in Miami and he was electric. He was the future of the MLB as far as aces go.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Well to be fair if Fernandez was driving the boat drunk then he would be responsible for the other 2 killed as well. Has anyone suggested that Fernandez was either a) driving the boat, or drunk?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Well to be fair if Fernandez was driving the boat drunk then he would be responsible for the other 2 killed as well. It's not even f***ing fair to speculate on something like that right now. This is a tragedy and not time for theories or comparisons of loss. Awful just awful
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 It's live on CP24 right now. Coast Guard and Fire Rescue. "As of right now, no alcohol or drugs were found from the accident... cause of death was full speed into the jetty, all victims were 24 to 27 and the boater was familiar with the area, all close friends, and visibility was very bad last night." Marlin players were frequent passengers of the boat, man, the team must be devastated, again my heart goes out to all victims, families friends and the Marlins Org, just tragic. Well to be fair if Fernandez was driving the boat drunk then he would be responsible for the other 2 killed as well. If you're going to speculate at least make sure you have the facts straight first...f***. Now I could be wrong but the fact that they said "the boater" was familiar with the area instead of using Fernandez's name, that he was not the boater.

WTF are you talking about? The blame in this is the guy driving the boat at high speed and low visibility. EVERYTHING else is tragic. STFU.
vanland Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 No one just idiots on here. Autopsy forthcoming but no drugs/alcohol was apparent at the accident
UKBlueJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Absolutely tragic. Was hoping the Jays would've been able to get him at the trade deadline. RIP JF16
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 As a Canucks fan, this feels eerily similar to when Luc Bourdon died in a motorcycle crash. So young, so loved and so much more to accomplish. Its a sickening feeling.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I had empathy for him, he was just a kid, his girlfriend was 18. People make mistakes, especially adolescents. Jose was a passenger, like you said, the details will come out sooner or later. Adenhart was killed by a DD after he won his ballgame earlier that night. How about the fact that Taveras was piss drunk and also murdered his girlfriend in the process? No difference? This is a much bigger tragedy also because Fernandez was one of the faces of change in the game, fiery, passionate and really f***ing good. I guess you missed that post above... P.S. Go f*** yourself, *******.

No, Fernandez and other players were always the passengers. They were well known on the water.
